Rename Columbus, Ohio to Arawak Ohio

We can no longer stand promoting a genocidal sex trafficker and living in an area dedicated to his piracy. This movement seeks to change the name of Columbus, Ohio, to Arawak, Ohio for the people, Christopher Columbus, genocided, enslaved and child slave trafficked. Any funds beyond needed to change the name will be used to build community and increase discussion of the continuing caging of human beings for non violent conduct.

Change The Name: Introduction Video

You can change the name today. Ultimately having major places in the city and the general public recognize Arawak, Ohio as no longer a dedication to a monster may take a while and may take require a few different collective actions.

Columbus Child Sex Trafficker, who got sweet heart deal like Jeffery Epstein?

Wikipedia reports that Columbus was incarcerated for about six weeks for his tyranny. But soon got a sweet heart deal from the King of Spain and a new voyage for more tyranny.

Columbus, 1500

“A hundred castellanoes are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten are now in demand.”

Columbus, 1493

“Their Highnesses may see that I shall give them as much gold as they may need, with very little aid which their Highnesses will give me; spices and cotton at once, as much as their Highnesses will order to be shipped, and as much as they shall order to be shipped of mastic… and aloe-wood as much as they shall order to be shipped; and slaves as many as they shall order to be shipped. It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

Barrtolemé de las Casas, 1542

"There are two main ways in which those who have travelled to this part of the world pretending to be Christians have uprooted these pitiful peoples and wiped them from the face of the earth. First, they have waged war on them: unjust, cruel, bloody and tyrannical war. Second, they have murdered anyone and everyone who has shown the slightest sign of resistance, or even of wishing to escape the torment to which they have subjected him."

Major Launch Sept 1

Gald to be here on steem. Hoping to generate funds and find local and nonlocal volunteers to help change the name from that of a pirate. Thinking about maybe an SMT or other ways to use steem to change the world in Arawak, Ohio. Feel free to delegate, or help in other ways. What is dumb about it? It's a disgusting name? Why not talk about his victims trying to redeem our souls?

I disagree. If there was a street named Hitler, I would be ok with it.

I'm going to have to agree with you. Pointing out mistakes from our past is better than just trying to eraser someone from history.

No one is saying forget the past, we just dont want to live in a place that champions a monster. The time has come to #ChangeTheName, and this initiative if successful, especially if supported by the steem community might bring a lot of people to steem.

Subjective Slippery Slope. And you are violating private property rights.

what private property rights are being violated?

If I own a car and you try to paint it without my permission, that is a private property violation. Because it's my car. If a person owned a road, same thing.

So what if people who live along Hitler St want to change the name? Would you be fine with that?

I believe in private property rights. If you own something, you should have the right to call something anything. If you bought something, you should be able to name anything. That includes roads. So, it depends on who owns the roads. People can protest. They can go to town halls. They can boycott. They can tell people what they want. If they want a road to change its name, then they can tell everybody about that. Ultimately, if taxes pays for the road, then people should have the right to name the road, assuming they then own the roads. I hate taxes. But we pay taxes. So, as long as we pay taxes, then we then own stuff in theory. I say in theory. Actually, government owns stuff. But in theory, if we pay taxes, then we actually own the stuff or should own the stuff. So, we should demand things or for less taxes. If they get our taxes, then we should be more hands-on with how they spend our money.

c'est la vie, hopefully we are free someday!!

Yeah I think the main thing is just to educate everyone on what they did in the past. So that history does not repeat. I am originally from Ohio and I did not realize his past. Every school goes to Columbus to walk on a ship and learn about Columbus. I think the things he did needs to be told and even though the city is named after him it does not mean he needs to be celebrated. Just educate everyone on how people got to a place of power in the past.

That's an interesting initiative and I learned a few new things, not necessarily surprising things but I hadn't quite thought a lot about the parallels between modern human trafficking and historical human trafficking. There's definitely some strong similarities and it some ways not much has changed! Sadly and unfortunately... I was just reading an article the other day about how much of a problem human males being trafficked is and how it's so underreported in comparison to females cause oftentimes men won't report and don't want to be seen as a victim, but that there's a significant problem there that not many people really know much about.

Anyways.. I support your initiative and I agree with it. Sadly I kind of doubt you will succeed because I get the impression most people don't like change and aren't really very ashamed of our history or even what happens in modern times for that matter... Just not enough people really care in general and that's a big problem in my opinion... I think some of these people would possibly even be more offended by wanting to change the name of an established city than human trafficking itself which is bizarre to think about, but so many people are so adverse to change and so comfortable with the status quo that they seem content to do nothing while atrocity happens and then get upset when people actually try to point it out and make a positive difference in the world.

So... I hope I'm wrong and that your initiative suceeds! Though I think you have a steep uphill battle ahead of you... Good luck my friend! I wish you well in your efforts.

PS I'm filling out the Google Form URL petition thing now.

Thx, bud, just trying ti finalize a few things before publicly starting the movement. I hope the summer has been going well for you. Hopefully have everything ready by end of next week.

You're welcome, and thanks to you as well! It's been a hot summer, but pretty memorable and good as well. I'm looking forward to cooler temperatures! Good luck with your project and efforts!

Change the city name. Sure. Do it.

And breach the Columbia River dams and let the salmon return...

But don't white wash his name in history. Some kind of hero for discovery of a place that was known?

Nope millions were killed by the sickness he brought with him. Let alone the horrors that he caused the native inhabitants.

Let him be listed with the genocidal killers of history.

What about California having bounties for men women and children? Indigenous people were exterminated for profit not that long ago...

hopefully this movement will help redeem our society. I hope the summer has been going well for you and your ladies. Planning to launch very soon so keep a lookout!!

This has to be one of the stupidest things I've read. Thank you for wasting 3 minutes of my life.
