My name is Ash Nair and i'm a Malaysian born Musician, Actor, Film Director and a student of metaphysics. I'd like to share context of what my blog's about and if anything here resonates with you -- i would love the follow! My handle is - @ashnair and let me start by saying how incredibly excited i am to be part of this cutting edge community!

I have never written down or shared on any social media post the following events. So as an offering to the community, i felt this would be a great 1st story to share and finally put down in words.

The Highs and Lows

So while in my twenties i experiences tremendous highs and lows both in my career and personal life. I was the 4th runner up in a singing competition called 'Malaysian Idol' (Malaysia's equivalent to American Idol).

I scored a record deal at 25, produced an album which spawned a few No.1 hits, worked with Grammy winning sound engineers, won a few awards along the way and got invited to the coolest parties in town.. It was all very surreal for a local Indian boy from a small town in Johor. From the outside, one would imagine i had an amazing life.

But that was far from the truth. I was secretly battling with depression and substance abuse.

Eventually, like most self destructive personalities, i self sabotaged my own career.. made a bunch of terrible choices which included me having a total of 6 car accidents in 1 year alone. Quite frankly, i'm lucky to be alive.

I became disillusioned from the bright lights of the entertainment industry. My ego got caught up with everything else except making new material. I lost focus and the edge for writing new music. The creative spark left me. And because i never released any new music, the phone calls eventually stopped coming.

I was left confused, angry and incredibly entitled. I soon fell into a deep depression and i shut myself out from friends and family. Now looking back at it, it was all quite a humbling.

The 'Event' that changed everything

So what i'm about to describe might be hard for some to believe. Nevertheless, i'll risk sounding like a crazy person and describe what happened on that eventful night March 2010.

(As a disclaimer: I was sober and not on anything when this happened)

On this particular night, while about to sleep.. i experienced something called a spontaneous 'Kundalini Awakening'.

A 'Kunda -what?' => For those interested to know more, click here

Let me try describe what this awakening felt like. While lying in bed, i opened my eyes to what i can only describe as a blinding white light.

It was so bright, i reeled back and a split second later, a jolt of energy shot up my spine from my perineum right to my head. My body contorted from the quick sudden electric shot. As the energy reached my crown, waves of visions flooded into my mind's eye.

One of images I remember vividly was of me hugging my best friend at that time and telling her that i loved her over and over again. As the visions ended i was left in a state that i can only describe as 'divine ecstasy'. For those who have experimented with MDMA or any drug that brings you into states of tremendous love and connection.. well, imagine that but replace earthly love with a deep connection to your own divinity. I looked out from my own eyes (towards my ceiling fan) reborn. I knew my life was never going to be the same.

I 'd like to add that before this experience i was agnostic verging on being an atheist. I didn't care about spirituality or religion. Neither did i contemplate on God or had any interest in yoga or meditation.

I was a heathen who's god was: Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll.

This state lasted for 4-5 hours. And as the proverbial light bulb switched on -- i knew with all my heart that something greater than me existed. Both outside and within me. A higher consciousness. A glimpse behind the veils. It felt real. Undeniable.

I felt pure, clean, like a baby, almost divine in nature. I knew that this feeling was within every man. But we somehow we have forgotten our place and connection to our own divinity.

I knew this was a gift. A story i had to share with people.

The next day, as the feeling of bliss went away i was left with doubt. I tried to label it as a hallucination. Maybe i made it up? I was tired after all .. Could it have been a dream? I needed to share this with someone.

The next day, i rang my best friend (the one who was in my vision) to tell her about it but before i could get a word in.. she told me about her deam of me the night before. In the dream, I was hugging her and telling her that i loved her over and over again.

mindblown

Fast forward today and it's safe to say this event changed my life. I've spent the next years 7 on a spirit quest that brought me to the Amazonian rainforest, where i spent time living amongst a dream tribe called the Achuar.

I explored Egypt, along the river nile where i visited various temples. My journey brought me inside the Kings Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza, where i meditated alongside other students of mysticism .

I then spent the next few years frequenting India often. I stayed in a few spiritual schools and ashrams learning metaphysics and meditation.

The last 7 years have been filled with experiences that would be hard for many people to believe. But this is where i'd like to share some of them. A blog where i share my thoughts, experiences and lessons i picked up along the way. I am very much still a student of life, exploring new places, experiences and making mistakes / bumping into things along the way and i wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm lucky to have a wonderful girlfriend, on a similar path like mine, who keeps me grounded. She will be joining Steemit soon!
