Geeky Tattooed Poet Currently Stationed in Ohio
Hi everyone,
My name is Bianca! I'm a recent transplant to Ohio from Kentucky. I teach English at a local university, and I've only been here for six weeks, so still trying to learn the ropes on a new campus in a small college town. It's been a bit crazy for me starting over here, and after I posted some written "freestyles" about my transition on FB, a girlfriend of mine suggested I try Steemit. Now, I see why! It looks like a great community, and I've found myself clicking around and really enjoying reading about folks' lives from all over the globe.
I write primarily poems and creative essays. Some other stuff too, but at the moment, all I really show folks are the first two. I look forward to spinning some yarns for you fine folks!
I collect a few things: rocks/gems/minerals, tattoos, tarot card decks, taxidermy.
This tattoo was my sister's idea. It's a Chess pawn that's been "Queened." She's got a matching one. I get all of my tattoos in brown, so when they fade, they start to look more like birthmarks.
This is Matt. He's a horse skull. I am actually sending him down to a friend of mine who will cherish him even more than I do!
This deck was just gifted to me. It's called the Art Oracles. Love it.
This here is a shamanic dream quartz. I named her Gloria.
I am a cat mama to two litter-mates, Oona (the dilute tortise-shell) who runs the household and Archie (the ginger weenie) who has recently developed Twitchy Cat Syndrome (yes, it's a real thing). I've had them since they were seven weeks old. Everything I know about love, I learned from a cat.
I had a HUGE change about a month ago and cut off five years of dreadlocks. So, I'm getting used to the short hair again. I have no idea how to take a selfie anymore. Where are my angles?? What's my light??
And lastly, the way I still my mind is through drawing and painting. This character I'm calling "Jurnee" bears a striking resemblance to me, right? But she's more like my avatar at the moment. I imagine she is going on a shamanic quest of self-discovery to unlock her inner dragon.
I think that's all for now! More soon! Thanks for reading along and for welcoming me to Steemit!

Awesome! Thanks. @rebele93
That was a very well written and joy to read introduction. That's rare. Welcome to Steemit! You'll shine here without a doubt. Who's your friend? I'll probably want to follow them too.
There are a ton of other webpages to help you with Steemit. Here are some of the best for beginners:
https://steemd.com/ (This site is used to keep track of your voting power and other stats. You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. I keep my voting power around 80% for example.)
https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (This site will tell you who follows you, who unfollows you, and who mutes you. It is great for meeting new people too. I regularly check it to see who has followed me to see if I should follow them back.)
https://steemit.chat/ (This site is the official chat webpage for Steemit. There are Discord channels too, but I usually stick to the official site. Come in to network and meet new friends. You can directly message people there too, so it makes it easier to communicate with your closest friends.)
Oh yeah, there are a lot of bots on here. If you see a cookie cutter reply, especially to your intro post, it is almost certainly a bot. Check the account's reputation. If it is low, I would recommend just ignoring them. Everything is public on Steemit, so you can go look at an account's comments and replies. Are they all the same? It's a bot.
Again, welcome, and I've followed you! If you have any questions about getting started, look me up on the chat site.
Hi @finnian! Thank you so much for the warm welcome and all of the resources and tips you took the time to post! Looking forward to following your adventures. My friend is @teneiced! :-)
Thanks and I followed your friend too. There is a 100 percent upvote to raise your reputation 3 points. :)
