Hello everybody I am new to this site so allow me to introduce myself!
I am new to this site yet the first thing I noticed is how friendly everyone seems to be steemit is a real community and one that I would like to be part of so he's a little about me.
My name is Terry Clifton I am 56 years old, I live in Western Australia, I was raised on a dairy farm, as a child I don't think there's anything better than to be raised on a farm the freedom the spoils of my father's hard work and my dad worked hard on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year milking morning and night if he was sick too bad the work had to be done and he was the only one there to do it!
As a child my family and I had one huge bonus our western boundary was the golden beaches of geographic Bay fishing, swimming, skin diving and surfing not to mention the partys you can have on the beach.
I went to school in Busselton I hated school I could not make friends and I just did not want to be there so quite often I wasn't unfortunately when I left school I had a grade 6 education my lack of attendance and learning ability was to come back and bite me!
(Busselton is a small holiday town nestled on the edge of Geographe Bay) Busselton is famous for its 2km long wooden jetty it's snowwhite beaches its clear waters and fishing. It's also famous for one other reason along with the rest of the West Australian coastline
SHARKS!! Western Australia is the deadliest coastline on the planet.
At 19 my life changed forever after leaving school at 16 I gravitated to the small town of Capel it was here that I would get my first real job and find my first real friend his name was Craig but as fate would have it Craig was killed in a horrific car accident six months later, once again I had no friends
as life would have it I made new friends and was once again enjoying life. Then my life changed forever while swimming at the local swimming hole (the swimming hole had a lot of ropes for swings) I went on one of the swings I landed on my head in the river breaking my neck between vertebrates C3/4
this left me totally paralysed all I could move was my head I had to make the biggest decision of my life do I stay or do I leave! Well that was over 37 years ago and I am still here thanks to my family especially my mother!
The first years after breaking my neck there was very little to do 2 TV channels no mobile phones no videos I had an electric wheelchair but that would only work for a week every two months then I got drawn into street racing it was illegal and very dangerous it made me feel alive!
I lived at home for eight years thanks to my mum however I could see it was getting too much for my mum so I moved into a purpose-built institution for quadriplegics I lived there for six years but hated that as much as I hated school after hundreds of letters and dozens of interviews I finally raise the capital to move back out in the community that was 1995 I had a support worker live with me for a few years
then I realised I wanted to live alone me and my dog that was 20 years ago I have been living on my own ever since it is my biggest achievement!
As you can imagine my hobbies are restricted I do however get a lot of enjoyment out of radio controlled yachts, buggies and gliders I was into fishing however due to the paralysis I cannot control my body temperature so sitting on the beach was never such a good idea my body temperature would drop dramatically leaving me cold and irritable.
Nowadays most of my time is spent on my computer however six months ago my third dog died then two months ago while I was sleeping someone broke into my lounge room and took everything of value!
One of the biggest changes in my life was of course the Internet along with voice recognition hardware this changed everything regarding work for the first time since 1980 I had work opportunities not a lot but the light was on then came crypto currency bitcoin I have been fascinated by crypto currency for about three years then we have steem and steemit this is a great combination and well thought out by the founders all I can say is lookout Facebook and Bitcoin!
If you have got this far I would like to thank you for reading my little story and wish you all the best in whatever you do.
