A New Perspective
Hi all,
First off, just wanted to say it's an honor to join this community. Incentivized social media is, in my mind, one of the next great revolutions of online communication. People flood mainstream social media networks with content - ranging from long form blog posts to memes - without a viable reward system. With a lack of rewards comes a certain lack of accountability, thus leading to the devolution of sites like Twitter and Facebook into vitriolic cesspools.
What attracted me initially to Steemit was how incredibly supportive this community seemed to be. There are a wide range of categories, each attracting their own level of attention and readership. However, in order for Steemit to go mainstream, I feel there needs to be a larger presence of bloggers, essayists, and digestible voices that have insight into topics such as politics, social issues, and so-on. This is (hopefully) where I come in.
About Me
I am a recent graduate of NYU's Steinhardt School with a B.S. in Media, Culture, and Communication. At school I was taught about media framing, consumer behavior, and the specifics of how the telecommunication industry evolved into the somewhat decentralized Internet that we know and love today. My love for reading and writing manifested at a very early age and continued through college, where I found great success in my sociology, creative writing, and philosophy courses. Math and science, though? Not so much.
What I Will Bring To Steemit
I intend on posting two to three times per week on a variety of topics. As a wide-eyed college grad it's extremely important to hone my skills and overcome my inherent introversion in order to compete in the New York City job market. Thus, I will be tackling a wide range of topics in order to flex my muscles - this includes social issues such as the rise of censorship, the influence of cultural Marxism in modern discourse, and various political debates such as abortion, the debate over America's Second Amendment, and countless others. I will also, at some point, submit some short stories I have written. Fiction reading and writing were the earliest influences in my life, and I was lucky to have continued my growth at NYU. I studied under a variety of influential writers, including David Lipsky (who is played by Jesse Eisenberg in The End of Tour), and have come to the point where reading and writing are inseparable from my identity. I am blessed at an early age with self-awareness - I am a writer, and always will be. Hopefully, after enough time, you all will think of me that way as well
I'm sorry for getting wordy - it's in my nature. I am so excited to get started here. I have a feeling this is the beginning of a wonderful journey.
