Our New Orleans Wedding, Montréal Honeymoon, and Growing Business! Personal Update.
Hello, friends! After taking a short sabbatical from photo blogging and social media, I’m happy to be back. It’s been a fantastic three months. My sweetheart and I got married!!! We loved every minute of our loved ones visiting from long distances to celebrate our love for each other and our life together here in New Orleans.
We kicked off the morning with our ceremony at the Scandinavian Jazz Church. Evan and I chose to keep the tradition of staying apart the night before our wedding, so we saw each other for the first time, walking down the aisle. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Later that morning, we got to experience a sudden subtropical rainstorm, which was actually a nice unexpected touch. I don’t think anyone will forget sprinting for four blocks in the heavy Louisiana rain! We found shelter at the Blind Pelican and waited for the storm to pass. We dried out enough to enjoy our streetcar adventure, snacks at the Palace Cafe, and a stroll through the French Quarter. Like true New Orleanians, passersby honked, waved, and shouted their congratulations. Back at our home for the reception, we had a good ol’ time. BBQ, live traditional jazz music, dancing, and drinks, long into the night, lit by twinkling lights and tiki torches.
For our honeymoon, we enjoyed nine (very full) days adventuring from morning to night in beautiful Montréal and Québec City! We walked the narrow cobblestone streets of Old Montréal, ate all the steam buns in Chinatown, hiked all throughout Mount Royal, went to an organ concert at the third largest basilica in the world, enjoyed the city view from the top of the ferris wheel in Old Port of Montréal, attended Catholic mass (en Français) at stunning Notre-Dame, and of course, took in a hockey game. Go Habs! We ducked into tiny cafés to avoid the rain, one of which contained The Greatest Donut of My Life. Québec City was absolutely picturesque in every way, like an old European walled city. Almost everyone we spoke to was bilingual, but Evan’s basic French speaking skills were super helpful. All road signs, directional signs, and most menus and store windows were completely en Français. However, it was fairly easy to piece together familiar words and navigate by context. Exploring French Canada was outside of my comfort zone and I loved every minute of it, with my sweet husband by my side.
After returning from the Great White North, we enjoyed some lazy days soaking up sunshine on the Gulf coast beaches, to get our internal body temperature back to our sub-tropical normal :)
I’ve also been working. A LOT! I’m happy to say my photography is really starting to get a solid foundation here in New Orleans; this autumn is looking to be the consistently busiest I’ve been since we moved here two years ago. I have so many shoots to share with y’all! Dozens of weddings, second lines, families, engagements, and commercial work, from both New Orleans and Oregon, that I haven’t shared on my photo blog or social media pages yet. If you’re not following me on Facebook or Instagram, I encourage you to pick your favorite and follow along for the ride. Stay tuned!
Note: Credit for these beautiful wedding photos goes to my talented friend, Julie Verlinden Photography! Love you, girl!
The polaroids are from my personal collection, and mark the beginning of a new project.
