RE: “So a pastor walked into a puff of STEEM one day” Who is this @GenXRev?

it really is an extraordinary community! i was away for a bit and just came back a little while ago - and the "welcome home" was sweet and warm! :) i think you'll find the same heart here (because you exude that heart!) there are ups and downs... and there are moments of real frustration! hahaha steemit is still a work in progress, and it really is what we make it! so brace yourself for those moments that make you wonder why you're even here... hahahaha if you're ready for them, you'll be able to persevere through them! :)

Just this morning I was thinking a great deal about just HOW warm the welcome has been... I mean I'm a complete stranger among you all and yet with a few brief comments in various places it's like a door was just opened for me and I'm ushered right to the dinner table to dine with you all. Feels odd but in the good way of odd. I can see that this is a group that truly is looking out for one another and it seems almost a contrast to many other gatherings of people I've been in. Like I said... it has been good and folks like yourself offering kind words, encouragement but also opening the door for the possibility of actual friendship to develop, it is kind of rewriting much of what I'd always thought about "social media" up until now.

yeah.... it's strange. i deactivated my facebook (nothing against facebook - just not really the platform for me..) about 3 weeks ago? it seems like other social media platforms don't really allow you to delve so deeply into another person's life. It's not like that for everyone here of course! Some like to keep it light and keep it moving. hahahaha But it's almost like you're in a room full of books. Some are magazines, some are novels, some are travel guides, some are journals... etc. You just find your section... and sit down :) With facebook (or any other "surface" platform) you don't REALLY get to see the person. You see a version of what they want you to see. But here - there are a lot of records just lying around... unlocked and open for people who care to read the pages. If you take the time to read them... you'll be rewarded with people who are genuinely interested in making connections. Sometimes you can read it in a post, sometimes in a poem, sometimes see it in their photography.... just a really special platform where you can make real connections if you're willing to sift a bit :)

You state well how I feel after this first week. The connections have more of a weight to them than much of what something like Facebook has been. Now that’s not to say that I do not appreciate FB for being a place I can get sort of the more day to day stuff of my actual friends, but a lot of what it seems to be is the as you say surface stuff that just sort of dissipates no sooner than it’s put up. I can see a place for each, but there is a difference. I wonder if it’s the nature what it seems really thrives on as a platform to truly create things others will value? I’ll have to think on that some more.

You'll find all sorts of people here. Not everyone wants to make quality posts :) hahaha

But when I find the keepers.....i keep them :)

And yes... Other social media sites fulfill a role. This one tends to lend itself to more meaningful interaction. (IF you have the time for that lol)

Yeah... I am noticing how much time it takes to really try to engage with folks. It’s been a pleasure, but it does indeed take time. I suppose that’s the nature of everything worth doing though.

well.... and then you can get stuck talking with people who enjoy commenting... ahem... like me :) hahahahaha and you should NEVER feel obligated to keep responding. LOL I just engage people a lot outside of posts and also in discord... but i'm kinda that 0.001%. so... don't think everyone will keep a conversation going like me hahahaa (and don't feel rude at all to just leave a "thanks dreem!" and keeping it short and sweet to responding to my comments. lol ) ... and i'm heading to bed soon so - i'll stop responding to THIS long string of comments that i've perpetuated and just say Night GenX! hahahaha

I do not "lol" a lot online, but I "lolled" in truth reading your post here... my wife says I have an incredible case of "pastor mouth" meaning I don't know how to shut the hell up when I'm having a great time engaging... I'm an introvert by nature, but me in a crowd and i'll find the wall or maybe better yet the door to the hall... give me a wonderful conversation with one or two others and I wont shut the hell up. (She once made a literal set of "stop signs" for herself and one of my seminary classmates' wife so that when we were at dinner they could hold up the sign and shut us off... Needful sometimes.

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy did i check my replies one last time before going to bed.. and whyyyyyyyyyyyyy do i ALSO need a stop sign made for me?!?!?! please tell your wife to make a stop sign for me too!!!! hahahahaha but i do have fun!!! it's just fun connecting, right?!!! LOL but for real - i'm really really going to bed now and i'm NOT gonna check my replies anymore.... so.... i get the last word. :)
