My name is Eric and my handle here is @emoney. It's a pleasure to introduce myself on this groundbreaking platform. This is the Reddit I always wanted.

Thoughts on Steem

Steem is an early and successful proof-of-concept of what blockchain-based decentralized networks promise for the coming years. No doubt we will see more distributed "permanent-web" implementations of services like Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram, perhaps as early as next summer.

The timing couldn't be better. We've been watching YouTube decay before our eyes, punctuated recently by the rollout of YouTube Limited^TM. Twitter and Reddit users are being shadow banned. Facebook regularly censors group pages and user posts. By messing with our free speech these centralized behemoths are biting the hands that feed them and Internet users are fed up with the model. 

Building a Better Future

The good news is that we already have the tools we need to build the type of Internet we want. We can build decentralized websites with IPFS and then etch their immutable paths into a blockchain like Steem (or EOS or Ethereum or Bitcoin or whatever). Want to delete or censor my video? The immutable address to that content is now permanently saved on the Steem blockchain and, as long as at least one node is sharing it, anyone will be able to get it.

What to Expect

I'll be posting about current events and things I'm seeing in the crypto-sphere; what projects look interesting to me and why, weigh in on the latest Bitcoin debate, price talk. I will also be doing some novice armchair technical analysis that you should always take with a grain of salt and absolutely not consider investment advice.

I'm also very interested in promoting free speech and the free flow of information, especially the controversial, rare, or hidden. My perspective is that before we make up our minds on anything (if that is even a desired outcome), we should hear arguments on all sides. I'm willing to change my mind and question my assumptions for the sake of getting nearer to the truth.
