Let's Do This: An Introduction and Commencement

Just write.

That's what my brain tells me when I'm freaking out over what to say in this intro. I'm a bit of a perfectionist (my brother is proofreading this for me and he heartily agrees). And I don't generally enjoy sharing information about myself with anyone. But maybe I'm putting the cart before the horse.

I'm Kailey Elizabeth Mashek, nobody you've met. I'm twenty-one and live with my family in a neighborhood in the Tennessee hills (not the mountains, mind you – just the hills). Most of my time is spent cooking and doing housework, helping my siblings with their schoolwork and taking care of our rabbit and two dogs. My life is simple and complicated, wonderful and frustrating. I'm glad you understand that.

My intended purpose in joining Steemit is to practice writing for an audience. There, I've said it. I'm just experimenting and anyone who chooses to read what I write are volunteers. I'm experimenting to see whether or not I can be a writer. That's my dream. I want to write things that others will read. I want to write things that will make people stop and think. I want to point the world to something better. But who am I kidding? I don't even have life figured out yet.

So what am I doing here? Right now, I just want to write to learn. Writing helps me with that, you know? It makes me focus on something and twist it around until I can see it more clearly. The advantage of writing for a social media site – the advantage of having an audience – is that I don't have to figure everything out on my own. Other people can give their input; play their part in the learning process. I don't promise to always listen, but. . .

Okay, so I'm also noncommittal. That will have to change once I find something worth committing to (I have found a few things, but I'm not sure how well I can defend them against scrutiny yet). On that note, I don't really have a definite plan on what I'm going to write about – just things that get me to think and to wonder during the week. Maybe I'll find a groove once I get up to steam. Or maybe I'll stay varied and unpredictable. I’m not sure how often I’ll write, either. When I first joined Steemit, I wanted to post once a week. I tried to form a habit of writing an article a week before I started posting, but that just didn’t work out. Maybe I can work up to it. For now, I’ll just post when I can.

I think that's plenty enough for an intro. Five short-ish paragraphs, and already you know my name, age, home, and life goals. If you want to know anything else, you're just going to have to ramble along my thought trails (aka. follow my posts). Or you can ask and hope you get an answer (if you hear a mischievous chuckle in the back of your mind right now, we're sharing thoughts). Seeya!
