Hi! I'm SO new!!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

I'm Goldcat. My home is currently in New Jersey, near Princeton, where we have been getting hit with those monster storms in the past week. My vegetable garden is under ice, which is really frustrating because I had been getting it ready for planting in the nice weather we had had before the storms. I love gardening!

@derekfreeman is my son. He also is into gardening, as you may know from his posts on AR Homesteading. He's an awesome guy! :)

While I have many interests, gardening is most important to me because I am passionate about creating a wildlife habitat in my yard using only native plants. My dream is to heal the planet by restoring, as much as possible, original flora and fauna. I want to save the species that are struggling to survive in their native habitats because they are constantly losing ground. Trees get cut down indiscriminately and non-native plants, put here by unknowing people, do not service the pollinators in the area, they do not feed the local birds and other wildlife. They often overtake the native plants, such as Kudzu has done in the southeast. Saving the planet is a tall order, that's why I'm starting with my yard.

I have an enclosure where I plant vegetables... and mix in wildflowers. I have a milkweed, monarch butterfly garden and have watched many caterpillars pupate eventually turning into magnificent monarchs. Oh, I also made a frog pond! Everything is a work in progress at this point.

I'm looking forward to this new adventure on Steemit. It's a challenging website!

P.S. Do pictures usually load this big?

Oh yea, I have upvoted you and followed you. Many blessings from @introbot & @bycoleman

Glad to see you here.

Me too. :)

Question, can you go check out my post on the wild garlic and tell me what you think. I am trying to identify. The thing is that they taste like garlic and when taken apart they have little cloves but kinda inside the white. they are young so the paper is still fleshy. Read the posts also please, ill send you or post more pics if you need, I can do some close-ups. I just assumed they were young wild garlic. The only difference I can find in pictures is the leaf size.

I'll take a peek too. We've been harvesting the wild garlic around here for a couple years now.

Well s***, I can stop some over one of these days. BTW Mom this is Kevin and his awesome family! I have HUGE amount of clothes for you too! I am busy right now, of course, with spring madness, but we are going to be dropping off some supplies to our BOL soon, I will try to give you a heads up see if your around.

Thank you @introbot & @bycoleman. I appreciate the links. I need all the help I can get. My son, Derek, has also been helping. This is an adventure for me.

lilcoffeekitty, I'm glad too that my son got me interested in joining. I will certainly check out your posts!

Welcome @goldcat! There are so much human damages in nature, flora and fauna should be respected, you are working for a noble cause. I am sure you will enjoy this platform!

fedesox, Yes, I agree! It's heartbreaking! We have a lot of work to do to change things around. I look forward to hearing other people's ideas.

hello dear goldcat, I wish you a very nice stay around here and a warm welcome :) Nice greetings from germany

yaraha thank you! Where in Germany? I lived in the Stuttgart area for 2 1/2 years a long time ago.

Your welcome 😊 It is near Frankfurt am Main, if you know that? Greetings! 🌸

I visited Frankfurt in the '60s when I lived in Germany. It's quite a long time ago. My husband was in the army. We were stationed at Wharton Barracks in Heilbronn (closed in 1989), then at Robinson Barracks in Ludwigsburg. I really loved living in Germany. My daughter was born there. She has a German birth certificate because I had her in a Frauenklinik in Horkheim. We didn't have time to get to the military hospital in Stuttgart. I hope she gets to visit her birthplace someday!

welcome! Glad to see a like minded person joining the platform. Live long and prosper!

lopezdacruz, I'm happy to hear you say that. And I have to live long so I can finish my job of helping the planet!

Sincerest Greetings!

liquifire , thank you very much!

Very good to meet a fellow steemian with homesteading and sustainable goals in the non traditional sense. I look forward to following both you and your son. Do you plan on leaving New Jersey to join your son in Arkansas?

gypsyclipper, I'm glad we're on the same page with our goals! I will be following you as well. Arkansas is out of the picture just now because of my husband's career. But I would love to be near my son! I figure that it will happen one day!

I look forward to seeing all that you post. Hopefully spring will get a hold soon. I'm getting stir crazy.

Here is a upvote and possibly many more!!
