The first one

I wish I could be walking while writing this. Physical movement and activity keeps my head clear and thoughts in a nice order to choose the ones I want to put into words from. But instead I'm slouching in an uncomfortable/comfortable position on the couch and staring at the white screen and feeling horror. What if no one reads this? What if someone does read this?

I had the whole thing planned in my head. Schedules and banners and first posts. But projects get delayed and changing schedules create anxiety and procrastination and you I start second-guessing everything. WordPress wouldn't have suited me anyways.

I was at a party yesterday and got to talking with this great girl, a friend of a friend, and somehow we wound up discussing my (soon-to-be) blog. As we found solid common ground on the issues I want to cover on my posts, I slowly changed my mind on what I wanted to say with this first of them all, the why.

I've always had a hard time finding truly like-minded people and the same thing applies to the blogosphere too. Bits and pieces here and there. And as I still have to find a blog that takes up the themes, at least mostly, I find interesting in an actually meaningful way, I thought why wouldn't I start writing said blog for myself and collect all the information to be easily found in one place. I mean, it's a hassle trying to find all the best recipes, when going through my natural beauty regimen.

That being said, as sustainability and knowledge and education outside the classroom are some of the most important values for myself, I also wanted to make the things I wrote accessible to everyone else too. Even if I was never able to earn a moderate living with writing and even if no more than three other people (my boyfriend and best friends) read what I have to say, if at least we learned how to make better, healthier, more ethical choices in life together, I'd feel like a success.

But maybe more than anything I hope I can turn this into the sort of community I have already built up in my head, where all these like-minded people I've been looking for can meet up and share their interests and opinions and ideas. Agree and disagree and try to figure out a better world together. Be friends.

When you make a friend jump through your crazy, perfectionist hoops to create a beautiful banner for your blog and you end up not being able to use it, you should share it anyways.
