How Did A Kitten Destroy My Life?!? . . . My Introduction . . .steemCreated with Sketch.

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Ok, 'destroy' might be too strong. 'Radically Changed' is better and honestly how I found SteemIt.  Before I explain why I'm blaming my cat, I think giving you some background about me will help.

A Nomadic Lifestyle

Starting in 2007, I began crafting a nomadic lifestyle.  I took an around-the-world journey in 2012 to celebrate my 40th birthday and then transitioned to a full nomadic lifestyle via "slow travel".  I have a work-at-home job as an SEO Specialist, working on digital marketing foundations, which permits me to live anywhere.  I've lived in many different cities over the years (San Francisco, Tokyo, Bangkok, Kolkata, London, New York, and many more).  In January 2016, I came to Cancun as a pitstop before traveling on to other places in Mexico.  THAT'S WHEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE (emotionally speaking).

Alert!  Expat Detour

Due to a combination of meeting cool people, enjoying the area/culture, and having fun, I kept pushing out my departure date.  For the first time in a VERY long while I felt the urge to stay longer in one location, but was I ready to give-up the lifestyle I loved??

While my internal struggle was in full force, a two-month old kitten showed up at my door - obviously needing help - and I couldn't walk away from her.  24 hours later, Mida had "claimed" me (as if buying her food, toys, medicine, everything - wasn't proof enough).  This tipped the scale, making me decide to stay in Cancun indefinitely! . . . guess I was ready to be an expat after all . . .

Fast Forward to SteemIt

I recently rented an apartment long-term (instead of using AirBnB) and my landlord told me about SteemIt (thank you, @donnaincancun!).  For the SteemIt community, I'll soon be sharing information such as:

As I get older, I find that I get more introverted and need to make an effort to learn new things (I've been thinking about retirement funds lately - Eek!!).  Now, I'm diving into the deep-end of the Crypto Currency pool and have a long way to go to understand all the nuances.  Personality-wise, I value being dependable, 'paying it forward', and facing my fears.  I believe in being optimistic, respectful of others, approachable, open-minded, and easy going.  Overall I have a 'can do' attitude and place more importance on experiences and people rather than things.

Nice to meet you. I followed you and look forward to your posts on digital marketing. I'm just now beginning to market myself. I started at the beginning of the year creating digital projects and selling them. I look forward to your future posts.

Very cool, Lance! Thank you for the follow. Congrats on starting the journey to making your digital products - it takes a while to get everything together. I'm not sure when you followed me, but wanted to make sure that you saw my intro post on digital marketing foundations: http://bit.ly/2sCZaLT Hope it's helpful. More to come, tho.

Checking your post out now!

Hola Jannell! - Love your Kitty! .... Btw, U still living in Cancun? I've been looking to move to Central or S. America, and Cancun was one of the places I was thinking about. How are the living costs there, if you don't mind me asking? How about the Ex-pat community? .....

Howdee! thanks for your comment. Yes, I am still living in Cancun and will be here for a long time. I find the costs of living are good, a bit higher than some other areas of Mexico, but definitely saving. The expat community here is one of the reasons I decided to stay. You'll find like-minded people here - there are others that said 'fuck it' to corporate america, too . . . I'm one of them ;) I'm on Steem.Chat if you want to talk privately.

Thx for the info on the Expats in Cancun... I've been looking into Equador, too, as I've heard the Expat community there is growing fast & the Dollar is really strong there with a lot of purchasing power.

Welcome to Steemit @jannell!! Love your posts so far! You got this down girl! You'll be a Whale in no time! 😉 Resteeming for you.
