3000 km solo bicycle trip starts here! BLOG #1 (text/photo/video)

Hi, Steemit guys!

I’m eager to share with you my incredible story which I experienced not so long ago – just last year.

"…no idea what supernatural power wakes me up in the middle of the night. White Nights zone is already behind me and the tent soaks in darkness. A quick glance at my mobile: four o’clock in the morning. In the evening, exhausted after difficult day, I pushed my bike into the clear space of power line poles surrounded by high grass. Just forest or cultivated fields were around. I noticed some hunters’ towers.
Suddenly I am overwhelmed by horror. Where are the sounds of birds and crickets? They have just been here and now a crashing vacuum is felt around. Tighten all my senses in order to hear at least a mosquito buzzing around, but my ears catch careful steps in the high grass almost near the tent… The steps are approaching me closer and closer. They are almost near…"

It is hard to cope with myself in the mornings. I am a night man. That’s why, no surprise why waiting for this morning for a long six months, was so hard to get asleep yesterday. Getting up this morning was a disaster! In snoozed body state I managed to hit the bathroom door and slightly split my forehead. Silently in my minds I accept it as a sacrifice for the Road Gods.

Today I am taking the road to the most madcap adventure of my life and I have a hope - no more blood will be spilled.

My bike is prepared for 3000km journey. I’m looking at it and wondering: will you survive, my red bastard?

Please, be so kind; please ride out, because I have no skills of fixing you… Well probably I can change the flat tires. Maybe. Do I have tools and extra parts? Hmmm… No.

For sure I didn’t buy a new tourist bike for just one month travel. I simply modified my 29er: changed tires, handlebars and put the panniers holders on. That's it.
I can lift it but it’s impossible to hold it up (it’s a pity we don’t have the scales at home).
If I need to ride off the road, push or carry it, definitely it will be too tough, because the bike with all my wealth on it is terribly heavy.

Leaving my childhood yard where I was born and grew up. I can recall many magnificent days I had spent surrounded by nature. Mad and wild kid, a kid of nature - me!

Never ever in my life I would change my childhood memories! However, today I am satisfied with the perception that we create our memories today! Here and now! We open the cage door and free the bird out – discovering the Real You, instead of making huge plans, rushing and worrying about the things that may never happen.

In front – the long road – about 3000km. I guess 100km a day is a perfect distance to pedal. So far I have no exact route for what I am really glad. All month I have no idea where to stay for the night and this mind makes me feel madly inspired.

11:30 Start!

The traffic for cyclists is forbidden on the highway. Anyway, I feel like I must have something to thrill myself for the first day. So, 35km against all the law and finally I have lunch in almost invisible, ruined by soviet assholes Atgaila village, with its citizens – memory board and cross and wild pear tree.

Partisans bunkers in Pasiliai forest. There our grandparents were hiding and lived the whole year, fighting against the soviet invaders. Those dudes had to have madly big balls.

What can be better than a sincere and honest chat with the nature? I had asked for adventures (something to thrill my world) and I am stuck in a crazy-devil storm just 30 km before Panevezys. I am pulling out my heavy winter coat, dry shoes and raincoat from the deepest spots of my bag.

Kasparas – one of my best friends! We’ve been together since the study times.

Neringa – Kasparas’ wife. She organizes the meeting dine that makes me laugh. I have the most incredible friends!

105km – my first day result. I feel terribly good!

Today's highlights:
“Ukmerge the borntown” – highway – get to know my bike – local villagers world – the smell of forest – mum’s lunch – bisons – downpour – dangerous traffic – meeting friends – shower – Lithuanian beer – chats looking at the lake.

Goodnight.

I promise to write you every single day unless I reach Copenhagen. It will take about one month. That month I am going to spend pedaling my bike and writing to you…

Will I have enough power to pedal my bike 3000km?
Will my bike remain strong without any break downs?
How friendly are the Northern country roads for cyclists?
How will I search the places for the night stay and where I will put the tent?

I’d like to pay the attention of those, whose eyes don’t slip through these hashtags: bike tour, solo holidays, traveling alone, places to travel, Europe cycling, travel diaries, travel writing, solo travel ideas, adventure travel blog, best travel blogs, Europe travel blog...

P.S. If you want to travel together – follow.

Thanks & see you on the road!
