The story of me, the future of this blog and of the challenges of politics and technology

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

Hello there.

The Name's Lennart. I study politics and communication in Germany and although I am very interested and involved in topics like peace and conflict management especially in the middle east and the international relations, my focus lies with the influence of technological change on political systems and the society as a whole.

If you, fellow human, are reading this on a page like this, it is very probable that you don't have your head in the sand when it comes to technological change and its upcoming possibilities. I assume you know quite a bit about blockchain (yay go steem), A.I., robotics or biotech. Thing is, most people don't. Most people I talk to do not realise how far we have come. I show them videos like this and they loose their shit thinking Terminator is right around the corner. But do understand me right, autonomous weapon systems are crazily scary but technological developments like the ones I mentioned also have the potential to create a utopian world, without war, hunger, sickness and even without death. But we have to talk about them and we have to talk about whether we as a global society want certain developments or not. Right now, those technological improvements and incredible innovations are coming from corporations like Alphabet, Facebook and others you haven't even heard of. Those companies are shaping the way we live tomorrow. And within our current system, their prime interest is not whether those innovations are good for humanity but rather which ones will bring the biggest profit.

This will be the focus of this blog. Reflecting on what's already possible in the realm of A.I., robotics and so on and its implications on our society as a whole and political systems.

I think that the fundamental changes, we as a society will experience over the next 20-50 years are beyond anything we can imagine. I think those changes will be more fundamental than the industrial revolution of the 19th century, and this was already a radical change in our collective way of living. Maybe the only time a societal transformation as upending as the coming technological revolution was when we stopped being nomadic hunter gatherers started farming our own food in static huts. I hope this Blog will help me collect and organise my own thoughts regarding this topic. Also I am very very curious of what you, my fellow steemians, think of my crazy propositions and I am hoping for some fruitful discussions.

Over the coming weeks and months (probably months, I am very tied in doing not-so-fun uni stuff) I will write about the influence of A.I. on politics today and in the relatively close future, its influence on future warfare and geopolitics and also on our everyday live. Impacts like the Blockchain revolution on the global economy and Robotics for the healthcare systems will also be topics of interest in the future, as well as the influence of biotech on our way of living.

So yes, I am very much looking forward to your comments and suggestions and I am happy to be part of the growing steemit community.

So long, cheerio and happy steeming,

Lennart.
