From Trading Cryptocurrency Alt-coins to Mining Electroneum

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

I live in Salem, Oregon with my wife Ellie. We have three children and five grandchildren. I'm an Air Force veteran, experienced in aircraft avionics systems troubleshooting and repair. I have an associate degree in computer electronics and experience in maintaining PC hardware and software. I'm driven by the desire to maximize the capability of computer hardware and software relating to internet technologies. What really stimulates my creative juices is the increase in potential available through synergistically weaving together individual components into a more powerful and efficient package. I design and maintain web sites based on the Drupal Content Management System. I'm self-taught in direct HTML coding and cascading style sheets. I design and test high-performance Virtual Private Server platforms, using custom-compiled code based on the NGINX web server. I thrive on positioning myself to help people achieve their goals, maximize their potential and realize their dreams.

On a recent project I upgraded a Virtual Private Server Operating System from Linux Debian 7 to 8, performing all the necessary tweaks to get everything working together. Next was the upgrade and migration from Drupal 7 to 8, which proved a little more of a challenge. The NGINX Configuration files required extensive modification. The migration actually went quite smoothly and all the content was imported successfully. The final upgrade was the transition from PHP 5.5 to 7.0. This was the least time-consuming part of my upgrade endeavors. The only challenge was determining the extensions that didn't work with PHP 7, the most notable of which was the Phalcon framework. The advantages of PHP 7 over PHP 5 seemed to outweigh any disadvantages of temporarily scrapping Phalcon. I'm beginning to use the Symfony framework instead and Composer in my Drupal 8 development projects. I'm also using Drush to manage the site maintenance functions, which streamlines my efforts immensely. To date, our sites are performing well and only require minor tweaks at various intervals.

In December of 2017, I began trading in cryptocurrency alt-coins, which was very disappointing. After this, I pretty much gave up on crypto trading. It seems too much like a dog chasing its tail. Very frustrating! I decided which coins to HODL, and stick with them. When Electroneum came out with the mining experience app, I installed it on my Pixel and have been running it ever since. I'm earning 10 ETN every day for just running the app. The app also comes with a wallet to store your coins and the payout is automatic after your pending balance reaches 10 ETN. This also caused me to research the profitability of mining ETN. My mining venture is consistantly pulling 20-25 ETN per day from Electroneum Hash Vault Pool. It makes more sense to passively grow my Electroneum portfolio, than trading my coins away. I'm also having fairly good results mining Monero.

@mallmg Welcome to this place where we can learn and share ours knowledges, and experiences with others steemians. I like your city.
Thanks for your post, a lot of succed. I am voting you

Hi, @mallmg, and Welcome to Steemit.

Reading the technical jargon about your field left me a bit lost, but your well-written text kept me reading and interested. It seems you will definitely have something to bring to this platform.

As for trading cryptos, I have never done it. I've traded both stocks and forex. Such trading can be very risky and very futile. Fortunately, with cryptos, we have great assets that we can simply HODL. That makes life a lot easier.

Below are a few basic points of advice re posting on Steemit.
1 – Longer posts are more lucrative than short posts. If you make a post of 20–30 paragraphs, it's more likely to earn rewards.
2 – Include some photos, images or graphs, to complement the text.
3 – Make sure the text and photos are formatted properly, so that your post looks attractive and appealing.
4 – Be yourself.
5 – Be interesting and informative.
6 – Create quality content. Steemit is intended to be a platform of quality content. (You will see many insignificant posts with meager content and no quality. Most of those of posts [called “shitposts” by Steemit whale Stellabelle] will earn few rewards and soon pass into oblivion.)
7 – Get online and start curating. Read various posts, comment on those posts you find interesting, and upvote those posts. That’s the best way to attract followers.

Hope this helps for now. Good luck, and Full Steem Ahead!

@mallmg, welcome and congratulations on making your first post! I gave you a $.09 vote! If you would be so kind to give me a follow in return that would be awesome!
