Introduceyourself Robert Dopf- Writer/Director - Follow me as I work to bring my first feature film to life- with the goal of optioning it to Netflix or Amazon!

Hello!

My name is Robert Dopf- I am a writer/director -Father and husband. I have a corporate world desk job, so a few years ago I started going to filmmaking as a creative outlet.

I joined Steem to meet like-minded people, and to chronicle the process of working on my next film, which assuredly is the biggest project I have tackled to date.

After successfully finishing my first short film, I began writing a follow up. After being exhausted by the length and complexity of my first project, I told myself I should write something simple...I instead wrote a dark, gritty Western...cause what could be easier than a period piece in Iowa, with little to no budget!

However after completing the script for "Wren Bone" it was read by a legendary Hollywood actor who is now attached to the project (how that happened is a story for another post- so please follow me!)

Below are some details about my next film "Wren Bone" our goal is to develop it into a feature film and make it onto a large streaming service like Netflix or Amazon. I hope you'll follow me on the journey as we get an original piece of storytelling off the ground.

Once the 'belle of the ball' in Hollywood, the Western genre fell away to relative obscurity. However, like many darker and edgier reboots, the Western is in the nascent stages of a cultural rebirth. In 2018, our nation specifically seems to be writhing for self examination. The Western represents a truly American palette from which to reclaim our nation's mythology.

Using the Civil War, and post Civil War era as a backdrop to explore ideas of identity, fertility, familial relationships, and justice; "Wren Bone" seeks to hold all the things viewers find dear to the traditional Western genre, while delivering a unique and unforgettable set of characters and visuals in line with more modern filmmaking.

Wes Studi

The most exciting aspect of this project is the collaboration with legendary actor Wes Studi. Wes is a veteran Hollywood actor who you may recognize from "Last of the Mohicans", "Heat", "Avatar", and the forthcoming "Hostiles" to name just a few.

Wes Studi has acted along side some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Daniel Day-Lewis, Al Pacino, and Christian Bale. He has played unforgettable characters in some of the most iconic films of the past 30 years.

Wes is the type of actor that any director dreams of working with. An honor shared by some of the most respected directors in filmmaking today. This includes names like Michael Mann, James Cameron, and Terrence Malick.

Wes is set to play a mysterious Native American Confederate General who has defected during the waining days of the Civil War. A man who has lived in various, completely different worlds, and seeks to manipulate the mind of an eager Union Sergeant who has been sent to capture him.

So there it is! Follow me on this journey! I am an average down to earth guy; who simply loves storytelling and filmmaking and can do without the pretentiousness and sleaze of unfortunately too many in the industry!
