Hello, Fellow Humans of Steemit!

I don't know how much people on here read these but it seems to be a tradition of sorts, so here it goes!

(Reward at end if you make it all the way through!)

My name is Ryan and I joined Steemit last month, mostly because 1) I wanted a platform for creative thought 2) I really have come to dislike Facebook and 3) I get rewarded for stuff I wanted to post anyways! Seriously though, I really think that the Facebook platform has become over-run with commercialism, memes and ignorant positions that are fiercely contended by people who have only done the bare minimum that could be called research in regards to the subject. I have tried, in the past, to have interesting discussions on all sorts of subject matter on Facebook but it usually is extremely ungratifying in the end. So hear I am...on to greener pastures I suppose. (I still have a Facebook account though.)

Anyways, in my cursory skimming through the content on Steemit, I have seen several threads, groups and blogger that peak my interest and that is promising. I personally love reading: history, philosophy, poetry, science, as well as a modest selection of fiction (especially science fiction). I find trains of thought regarding futurism, what it means to be human and all thought experiments of the science fiction flavor especially enticing. I personally believe that, if people spent more time with three subjects/concepts, then there would be a great deal less angst in society. As you may have guessed, due to my cover art, those three things are philosophy, poetry and physique. My own version of mind, body and spirit, only with different words and slightly different order. My blog will probably be focused on these three elements and what they mean to me, and why I think they are all equally important to becoming a well balanced human being that is happy and successful in his or her own way. Not that I am an expert, I am still learning about my Self, which is what makes it so exciting!

If you made it this far, Bravo! I ended up writing more than I anticipated for this intro post. Rambling is a real problem with me. To wrap it up, I have been working with animals for the past 5 or more years, with the last two in the veterinary medicine field. It has been an interesting journey so far, but I am weary of several aspects of it, which now has driven me to start reconsidering how I go about making money and, more importantly, spending my time. I have made it my goal this year to start exploring alternatives and taking steps to become independent of "work" (meaning a required 9-5 that I have to go to) and start turning (other) interests into a living. I will probably stay with animal medicine for awhile, I do enjoy some aspects of it after all, but I don't believe it is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

So there you have it, thanks for reading to the end. As promised, here are some adorable pictures as a reward!

Welcome to Steemit @ryanwolf! You might fit with Homesteading... lots of animals involved. Working for ourselves is the plan. Good luck!

I earned myself a turtle! Yay!
Here's my video where I draw and talk about baby turtles! (Youtube video)

Welcome to Steemit! I'm new here too!

Hey cool video! Yeah I have worked with turtles a bunch when I worked at an intern at my local aquarium, with captive turtles as well as with wild turtles as part of the Stranding Response Team (also aquarium). The turtle posted hear actually one that I worked with. My project was to build a nesting box for her so she could have a place to lay her eggs in her exhibit. Unfortunately, it didn't work out and she had to be induced but it was a great learning expierence! She is a Malaysian Giant Turtle or Bornean River Turtle btw... very funny creature.

That's awesome! I bet that's a blast!
