Hello Steemit! Guess this is where I introduce myself (nervously shuffles feet...)

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

I'm Chris and this is my first post. I usually have a lot to say about most things besides myself so here goes.

A friend who's trading alt coins introduced me to steemit, I have also been observing the growth in crypto markets recently (exiting stuff!) and this journey into a new world has inadvertently bought me here.

Blockchain technology is getting ever more fascinating, it's providing a stepping stone for innovative new ways of managing data and integrating the digital world into our daily lives in a way that's liberated from traditional reins of control. It's the dawn of looking at data differently and this platform shows us there is a better way, I hope it's moral compass serves as a baseline for the social media of future generations.

The more time I spend around here the more I realise this platform is based around many ideals that I hold dear. I've lurked around for a week trying to understand the etiquette and initial complexities of this place and now I'm taking the plunge, I hope to be a part of it and do what I can to help the Steemit community grow!

This is the bit where I waffle on about my random hobbies but I have included a few pretty pictures (there's cats)...

I have a fancy for astrophotography and the sky at night, living in a city that's persistently covered with grey clouds it can be an elusive mistress but we do have the odd good day.
The phto above "Light pollution, chemtrails and Orion" was taken in Knole park, Kent with a little old Nikon D60 (long exposure with stock lens).

The moon from my back garden. Skywatcher 8" reflecting telescope, Nikon D60 prime focus, 5x raw images stacked.

Another passion of mine is model flight. I enjoy building, designing and flying simple foam RC planes and more recently racing style multirotor's (drones). The multirotor stuff is a bit of an unexplored area with regards to design so it can be a fun place to experiment.
This one is fairly common and put together with off the shelf components. Most people are suckers for carbon fiber so here you go, it's certainly a lot nicer looking than a pile of wood & plastic that I've attacked with a handsaw.

I like electronics, the minuscule things we call circuits today are far less interesting than ones you can cobble together yourself with big old chunky bits of the past. Etching PCB's & building replicas of old audio units (simple ones like guitar pedals, oscillators, filters etc) was a pass time of mine for a while.

Winding/modifying brushless motors is unfortunately what I call entertainment :). It's strangely very satisfying.

I like driving, ride motorbikes a little and am partial to a bit of spanner wielding. This be my ride yo, I've had it for a while and it does go wrong from time to time.

I have an odd magnetism to cat's. They all want to come home with me, honest!

I'm currently owned by a Bengal named Marley who's a bit of an evil teddy bear, he uses brute force when he steals my seat & and doesn't really like other cats.
In the spirit of full disclosure, my brother took the last image but I was the one dangling the toy on a string. Surely that has to count for something. For anyone interested, other images from this set can be found on my old Flickr account & my brothers Flickr account

Thanks for reading my first Steemit post. I did try to balance things out with pictures of fluffy animals at the end :D.
I've been mooching around here a little, meeting folks and starting to understand the lay of the land so wanted to verify I'm not a spammer or robot. Now my first post is out of the way (phew) I can concentrate on what happens from here on!

I'm trying to get the ball rolling to pull myself up from the plankton but as you already know, I'm new here & don't really know what I'm doing :p. I do intend to take your advice though, support like this helps a guy find his feet so thanks again!
