Loving life and wanting to try new things. Hello Steemit!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Good evening Steemit!

I've been planning some (possible) life changing items on my to-do list and I figured, why not share my journey to anyone who's interested?

I've had some interesting twists and turns in my (still) young life. I wish to share some of those in the hope that it might inspire or help people in possibly similar situations.

Something about myself:
I live in the northern part of The Netherlands. I'm 26 years old and I'm an avid motorbike driver and I love to build stuff. Me and my wife love to workout for strongman competitions and I'm just shy of 2m tall (6ft 7" I believe).

I'm working on starting up to make video's about the stuff I build in my garage. I have 2 passions in life really, Woodworking and working on (and driving) motorbikes. I'm hoping I can combine the two and make regular video's on projects I'd like to do. I'd love to be able to eventually quit my job and do this full-time and entertain people while doing it!

How I came to be who I am now!
I'd like to give some background info on my life as this might interest some people. If there is any interest in topics that people would like me to adress, I'd be happy to go more in-depth. Some of these events have changed my life for the better or worse I can't say. Though they made me the person I am today for which I'm grateful. I see some of these as obstacles which I have overcome in one form or the other and have made me a better person.

My parents divorced when I was 11 years old. I lived with my Mom for the first year but eventually she kicked me out due to her then new boyfriend. I've lived with my dad ever since and haven't spoken to (or seen) my mom in the 8 years that followed. My baby brother joined me after another year. After about 2 years he went back to my Mom. He's lived there ever since.

I've bought my first house when I was 20 years old. This was around the same time when I started to get into touch with my Mom again. She re-married (not the same guy) and all was well for a few years.

My mom and now wife did not get along for the next few years unfortunately. At all.

In 2014 I almost died due to Shingles on my face due to being away from home and no medication in sight for a day or two. 90% chance on total blindness and 50% chance of the disease spreading to my brain which would result in me being totally paralyzed. I've recovered 99% luckily.

In March 2016 my dad was diagnosed with terminal Pancreatic Cancer. I was away from home for Business at the time. Longest few weeks of my life honestly.

In May 2016 I've had a severe motorbike crash on a holiday in Austria which had me in the IC for 3 days and hospitalised for 3 weeks. Broke 12 ribs on my left side, 2 fractures in my sternum, broken collarbone, 3rd degree torn spleen, partially double collapsed lung, brain contusion, three blood clots in my brain and a whiplash.
My mom and wife fought in front of my bed in the hospital. My mom left us and I haven't had contact with her since.

I had proposed to my wife a few months before and (yeah really) we had not set a date to get married yet. We ended up getting married on the 16th of June 2016. One week after I got out of the hospital. I was determined to go to my own wedding! The wedding itself was small with family and close friends. It honestly was one of the best days in my life. It was a really rough and trying day though.

My dad passed away, 2 months after me and my wife got married, at the age of 56. It still hurts like hell and I really miss him.

It took me 4 months of rehabilitation before I went back to work. The only thing I still have an issue with is my collarbone as it's a bit shorter now. Otherwise I'm 100% recovered luckily.

On to the good stuff:
Honestly, most of it looks really bad. But remember, all this has shaped me to the person I am today. I've always told myself that I'd not let the bad events win. Always try and stay positive. If something's broken, fix it!

If something is too stressful for no real reason, just drop it.
If people are being too negative and dragging you down? Just cut them loose.
Don't stress about the small things. Those dishes will still be there tomorrow. Laundry too.

Most oftentimes I see people stress and worry way too much about small things. I used to do it. It only took me a near death experience or two to realise that it isn't worth it to stress-out about most of it honestly. I try to enjoy life where I can these days. I've set some goals for myself and I try to do the best I can while doing the things I enjoy.

As another positive note, I bought another motorbike and have been riding again. I started weightlifting again and I'm stronger than I was before the crash. And I'm married to the best person I know in the world.

I still miss my dad.. That I cannot change unfortunately. Some things you just have to deal with unfortunately. But it helps to share it with other people sometimes.

Thanks for reading through my very long introduction. I promise that I'm not at all negative in any way. I just find it important to share some of my experiences with people.
Maybe someone you know has gone through something similar and might benefit to know they are not alone. Maybe someone get's inspired to do something or try something new. Please don't judge, everyone has their own battles to fight. To all of you who do, keep fighting! Keep winning Stay positive.
