The @steemfreepress account has been created in order to utilise the skills and talents of the steemit community in order to create a real world publication with the intention of promoting the steemit platform, the steem blockchain and all of the related issues that arise from the technology, as well as disseminating information to the general public that they might not otherwise be afforded the opportunity of being exposed to via mainstream news sources.
The plan is to do this in a way that allows them to gain or expand their critical thinking skills by exposing them to aspects of our society that aren't readily apparent or even obfuscated and allowing them to form their own conclusions by encouraging them to further investigate subjects which they previously may have given little consideration to.

The initial intention is to create a one off magazine with the hope that the cost of printing a limited number could be funded in part or in full by rewards or donations from within the steemit community and distributed freely, either by handing them out to students at universities or to commuters on their way to and from work etc. Or even, if practical, by providing them to members of the homeless community in order that they might receive a donation from a member of the public in exchange for a copy of the magazine. All rewards from @steemfreepress posts will be used to cover the cost of printing and related costs and all expenditure will be accounted for. There may also be the possibility of allowing a certain amount of space within the publication for steemit based advertising that is in line with the ethos behind its creation. These funds could either be used to increase our distribution or could be used directly to help those in need.
If this pilot project is successful, then we would look to continue producing the publication as well as expanding distribution. There will also be a copy of the completed magazine published on the steemit platform from this account.
In order to create our magazine, as I mentioned, we aim to utilise the talents and skills of the community here on steemit by inviting them to contribute in any way they feel they can, whether that be by writing articles, designing artwork, editing, proof reading, curating submissions or even just suggestions for what you think should be included.
For the pilot issue, I will be making posts in the coming days requesting submissions for specific stories that I'd like to concentrate on for the first issue. One of these will be a 'What Is Steemit?' article in which you will be invited to submit an article in 1500-2000 words explaining in simple terms what exactly steemit is to the general public. I'll be looking for the article that I feel best reflects and represents the platform and that does so in simple language.

I'll also be requesting submissions for more articles covering various subjects, submissions for cover art, masthead design, and much more as well as asking you to nominate your choice for a 'Feature Steemian' article, so please keep an eye out for these also. Going forward, this account may be used for other related projects but for now the main project is to create our pilot magazine. Having a nicely done mag to empower / teach the people ( and more the powerless ) it is priceless!.. i am having a hard time trying to explain steem to others and i guess others do too. I still need to learn a lot since i recently found out what steem is :) and joined this Jan :)

I just have to echo what @sublimate says here! I tried to explain what steemit was to my parents and I think they grasp it but I know my mother would absolutely love to have a physical publication, in her hands, to read in bed. Is it too early to pre-order a few copies @steemfreepress?
We're at the very early stages of the project now @pleaseignore but hopefully it won't be long before we have a real world steemit magazine. Hi @sublimate, great to see that you are interested in helping out. Just wondering if you have done much translation for utopian.io as they generally have some demand for work over there. Also, I would be interested in having some of my articles translated into another language so maybe we can chat on Discord?

I like this idea. The problem is that there are endless ideas and you will have to find ways to get enough publicity in the community to fun it properly. It would help to get a whale or two on side.
Anyone in particular that you think might be interested? If there's someone working on the marketing/PR side of things (or has any good ideas) then pitching it to a whale would unlock a lot of potential resources and opportunities! But this still needs to get off the ground without their support if it is to succeed I think.
Hey Danny. Thanks for taking the time to read over the post and for the nice comments. As @plushzilla has just mentioned, the support of one of the more influential members of the community would be a big help but I'm not really on speaking terms with any myself at the moment and feel as well that we can achieve a certain amount of success on our own initially which we can build on. In any case, I think you would bring a lot to the project and I am slowly trying to get others involved. I'm confident we will get the support in time and though it would be good to get a magazine out there asap, we aren't in any rush and can take our time to work things out.

Thats a very brave step to bring Steemit into another big leap and more exposure might be a good idea and put them in a magazine because not all of the people around the globe notice the Steemit existence some people just used their internet connection to manage daily basis need just for shopping pay bills watch videos on Youtube but not for something like Steemit..when people see it as a blog... reading and writing...people surely not so intereted to it...haha
Maybe there could also be an online/digital version of the magazine published as well?
Yup thats can be done too some of the popular magazine have their own web page to promote their content but thats up to the Steemit developer.
