Hi guys! I'm winterbike because... well I bike in the winter! Steemit needs more bicycles!

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

It started when I was 17 (12 years ago now o_o) and I spent a few months working with hippies in an environmental organization. At some point they mentioned a bicycle rally for climate change in the winter, and my mind was blown. Bicycles were things you stored at the end of Fall, and took out in the Spring. That was as far as my thought process had gone before. So I started to use my bicycle to go everywhere in every weather (southern Quebec, it gets cold as f*ck here) and cycling is still one of the great loves of my life. And I picked winterbike as my username on a bunch of websites because I had limited English back then :D .

That's me with the girlfriend, buying plants and equipment to make our food forest dream a bit bigger. She's a big nerd and draws stuff for a living, I'll get her to introduce herself soon!

Back to bicycles: bicycles are the ultimate life cheat

Sure, bikes are good for the environment, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. They get you from point A to B. They make you save on a gym membership and make you sexier. They save you tons of money that you can then invest in cool shit like bitcoins and new plants (and better bicycles). They reduce your stress and make you part of the environment (in opposition to cars, who stress you and cut you off from your surroundings). They make you harder to kill when you get used to ride in less favorable weather. And they require less space on the roads. Everybody wins really. I go to work on my bike, travel on my bike, and bike for fun. I encourage all my students to do the same (I teach students aged 16-19). Get a bike, ride it, your life will improve.

Bit more about me

After a few failed relationships and being unhappy with where I was in life at 24, I started to by more systematic about making the hard choices and improving myself. I found great support with my BJJ teammates: they turned me on to cool things like psychedelics, libertarian politics, and cryptocurrencies. My good friend "cob" brought me here, and you should look him up, he started Peertracks like a boss. I still wish I wasn't a broke student when he told me about bitcoins 4 years ago -_- .

I'm fascinated by habits and by what makes people act the way they do. I aspire to systematically make the world around me a better place: more green (go permaculture woot woot!), a happy girlfriend, more prosperous friends and family, more personal freedom. That's where my efforts go, that's where my money goes.

I'll be back with more cool stuff about healthy habits and green projects, I wish you all the best!

P.S. I already posted two articles, one about habits (found here: https://steemit.com/healthy/@winterbike/change-your-environment-first-4-lazy-ways-to-get-healthier ) and one about better ways to measure your health than using a scale, (found here: https://steemit.com/stories/@winterbike/ditch-the-scale-8-ways-to-measure-your-health ). More to come! :D

The page about sources sends me to a 404 not found page, got any ninja tricks to make it work?

There's a comma at the end of the link that shouldn't be there. Just remove it. : ) should work.

Thank you sir! :-)

I am sure enough you know about the donkey bike concept then...
