Steemit Newbie, Hello, I am Cindi
Today I started out on a new writing forum venture called Steemit. My brother introduced me to this site which he has just joined today as well.
My name is Cindi. I live at a beach in South Carolina in the United States. I am a nurse in a hospital here. I am married, and have five children. All boys. Three are grown and two are still at home ages 9 and 11.
I have done some writing on other sites, and I intend to eventually narrow it down to my two or three favorite.
I like to write short fiction, but occasionally like real life subjects.
I hope to make many friends here as I have on other sites. Who knows, some of you might already be my friend from another site.
I have read the faqs, but I am sure there is a lot more to it than that. I would love to hear some pointers from the more established folks here. Like, is there a word or character limit? Are there any subjects that are taboo? How do you add photos, and how do you give credits for them? Can you only post photos that are your own? So many questions...I also don't understand the points system and payout AT ALL. Your help would be much appreciated on these matters.
Please feel free to give me constructive criticism. It is what helps us improve.
I am happy to make your acquaintance. Let's be friends. :)
Hi Cindi, I hope that you enjoy yourself here on Steemit and I hope that people actually bother to read your posts and/or comment on them. Maybe you could read this post https://steemit.com/steem/@himshweta/11-things-no-one-will-tell-you-about-using-the-steemit-platform to help you to get a realistic view of what Steemit is like. I think that most people are here to make money, rather than form a community and "constructive criticism" isn't something that you're likely to get unless your pre-exisiting fans have joined the site. I'm not trying to be harsh just speaking from my own experience as a writer posting my original content to this site and getting absolutely no response to it AT ALL (but that's explained in the post I quoted.
As to the character or word limit, I haven't noticed one but most writers seem to write quite short posts which I would say are less than 500 words.
You can post pictures that belong to you and if you do post other people's pictures then I would suggest that it is necessary to get permission from whoever holds the copyright seeing as you can earn money from your posts on this site.
Basically I would suggest that you do whatever you would do if you were publishing a book, ie use your own material or gain permission from the copyright holder. As posting to Steemit without permission is copyright infringement unless your post somehow fits the Fair Use clause.
The points system is mentioned in the FAQs, at least I think it was when I read them but there are various posts on this site which can give you more easy to understand advice.
Thank you for your response. I had a terrible time trying to figure out how to read it. I figure its about like all the other sites out there, but what the hay? I'll give it a try. Every time I try to upvote a comment or article, or do anything really, I get a "network error" and can't do it. I am not going to get frustrated though. I will figure this out. Thanks for the honest opinions. I appreciate it.
Hello!
Why is your reputation 0?
Apparently Saluton is a hello bot.
What's the point of that?
I'm not sure. ??? But that is what it said...
