Apple iPhone X vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8: The battle of smartphone biggies

in #iphonex7 years ago

There is no denying that Apple and Samsung are arch-rivals in the smartphone industry. Both the companies have unveiled their flagship models for this year and are on the verge of releasing them in the global markets. Apple has come up with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X of which the iPhone X is the tenth-anniversary edition with advanced features and special aspects such as OLED display, 3D Face ID and more.

Coming to Samsung, the Galaxy Note 8 is the latest generation flagship phablet that has been launched by the company. Being the successor of the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has taken a lot of effort to make the Galaxy Note 8 an advanced and powerful device in the market.

Apple iPhone X production cost estimated to be less than 50% of selling price Both the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8 are one of the best devices in the market and the most powerful ones too. These represent the best that both the Android and iOS platforms have to offer to the users. Given that these smartphones come with a bezel-less design, OLED display, dual camera setup at the rear, facial recognition, full-screen display, and powerful innards, we have come up with a comparison to show how these two devices stack up against each other.

Do check out our comparison between the Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 from below. From the comparison, you can get to know which one emerges out as the winner in the battle of the flagships. Stay tuned to GizBot for more updates! Design The first thing that will catch our eyes when we take a look at these phones is their gorgeous design.

There are some design similarities such as the glass black, metal frame, bezel-less sides, thin bezels at the top and bottom of the screen. On comparing the two, the iPhone X appears to have rounded corners. For the front-facing camera and sensors, there is a small patch above the screen on the iPhone X.

Though the Galaxy Note 8 also has thin bezels, it is not as thin as the ones at the top and bottom of the iPhone X's display. On the former, you can see the entire front being occupied by the screen. Apple has ditched the home button below the screen to increase the space of the display.

While the Galaxy Note 8 has also missed out on the home button, the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the rear which is not the case with the iPhone X. Apple has completely missed the fingerprint sensor on the iPhone X. In terms of dimensions and weight, the iPhone X measures 143.6x70.9x7.7mm and weighs in at 174 grams. On the other hand, the Note 8 has a larger footprint measuring 162.5x74.8x8.6mm and is heftier measuring 195 grams.

Besides this, the Galaxy Note 8 has the IP68 rating and iPhone X has IP67 rating making them resistant to water and dust. While the iPhone's water resistance is not as good as that of the Note 8, the former will be tougher as it is claimed to feature the toughest glass at the front and back. Display Talking about the display, both the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8 feature an OLED display. The iPhone X adorns a 5.8-inch OLED Super Retina Display with a resolution of 1125 x 2436 pixels and a pixel density of 458 ppi.

The Galaxy Note 8 flaunts a larger 6.3-inch OLED Infinity Display with a QHD+ resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels and a higher pixel density of 521 ppi. Both the smartphones use the OLED panels from Samsung, so both the screens are sharper and render superior contrast and vibrant colors as well. The screen on the Galaxy Note 8 is relatively curved while that on the iPhone X is flat. Samsung has attempted to use a curved screen as it will let you conveniently swipe across the edges of the screen to access the menus and shortcuts.

The major difference is the presence of the S Pen on the Note 8. The stylus lets you sketch and take notes on the device even when the screen is turned off. Hardware The Apple phone makes uses of the Apple A11 Bionic chipset, which is based on the six-core architecture and it is claimed to be the most powerful smartphone chipset in the market.

The Galaxy Note 8 features an octa-core Snapdragon 835 SoC or the company's in-house Exynos 8895 SoC under its hood. Both are top-end chipsets that are equally powerful and capable. While the iPhone X is said to have 3GB RAM, the Samsung phone has 6GB RAM. It may sound like the higher RAM on the Note 8 will win here but Apple devices usually have smaller RAMs that will not let go of the performance. In terms of storage, the Galaxy Note 8 has been launched with 64GB storage space that can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card, the iPhone X comes in two variants - 64GB and 256GB.

As it is known, the latter does not support expandable storage. Software The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box while the iPhone X runs on iOS 11 out of the box. The former will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update in the coming months. Get to know the features of iOS 11 and Android Oreo to know how these platforms might compete with one another and the goodies that these will offer you. Camera The iPhone X features a dual-lens 12MP camera setup at its rear. One is a wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture and the other is a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture.

There is OIS, optical zoom and more for clear photos, capturing depth of field information, bokeh effect, and more. Apple has focused on augmented reality with the camera by letting your project video games onto flat surfaces such as tablets or walls. In comparison, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with a dual-lens 12MP camera setup with f/1.7 and f/2.4 apertures. This phone also has OIS and optical zoom. However, it misses out on the AR capabilities that Apple has bundled. Up front, there is a 7MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture on the iPhone X has an 8MP front camera with f/1.7 aperture. The iPhone X has the 3D Face ID sensor that scans your face to unlock your phone and authenticate purchases. Of course, the Note 8 also features a facial recognition feature but it is not as secure and advanced as that on the iPhone X.

Battery The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 gets the power from a 3300mAh battery that supports both fast charging and wireless charging. This time, Apple has also offered support for wireless charging and fast charging but for the later you need to purchase a dedicated cable separately. The battery capacity hasn't been revealed by Apple but there are claims that it is lesser than that on the iPhone 7. Price and Availability The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is priced at Rs, 67,000 and is already up for pre-order. When it comes to the Apple iPhone X, the 64GB variant is priced at Rs. 89,000 and the 256GB variant is priced at Rs. 102,000 raising the eyebrows of many. The device is all set to go on pre-order on October 27 and the sale will debut on November 3. Verdict Being the tenth-anniversary edition of iPhones, the iPhone X has been designed to set a path for the future of smartphones. And, we can't deny this as the device comes with an all-screen front, AR features, a powerful processor, an advanced face scanner, an all new design and more.

The Galaxy Note 8 is in no way inferior to the iPhone X as it comes with an edge-to-edge display, dual camera, powerful processor and more just like its rival. Though the Galaxy Note 8 also features a larger display that covers most part of the device's front, there are slightly thicker bezels, especially at the top and bottom. If the Face ID sensor is a positive that Apple can put forth, the Note 8 has the S Pen stylus with advanced features to fight with the iPhone X. There is a dual camera setup on both the smartphones so that there is a tough fight in this aspect as well. Ultimately, both the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8 are powerful devices but the pricing is the major aspect where Apple might not attract many users at least in India. Even the iPhone fans might not spend such a huge amount to upgrade to the iPhone X.
