Chennai Super Kings, one of the most powerful T20 franchises across the globe, had a disappointing start to IPL 2018 auctions, where they had to let go of local boy Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner, who has been a match-winner for the Yellow Brigade over the years, was sold to Kings XI Punjab for 7.6 crore as the CSK think tank did not use their Right To Match (RTM) card to bring back the spinner despite MS Dhoni previously saying that his team will go all out to bring back Ashwin. Unlike other franchises, who splurged plenty of money on young talent, CSK clearly went for experience.After losing a senior spinner in Ashwin, CSK bought Harbhajan Singh at his base price of Rs 2 crore. The two-time IPL winners used their two RTM cards to bring back Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo. While the West Indian all-rounder was retained at a price of Rs 6.4 crore, Faf du Plessis, surprisingly, was retained for just 1.6 crores.
