Do not cause harm or return harm
— Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)
Sunan Ibn Majah 2340

The Prophet defined the true Muslim as one who avoids harming other Muslims with his tongue (words) and hand (actions).

الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ
The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe.
— Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)
Sahiḥ al-Bukhari 10

say always that which is best

Tell My servants, (O Muhammad), to say always that which is best. Verily it is Satan who sows discord among people. Satan indeed is an open enemy to mankind
The Quran 17:53

Who is the best Muslim?

  1. he is the one from whose tongue and hands the Muslims are safe
  2. he is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe
    — Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)
The Book of the Prohibited actions Book 18, Hadith 2
    Sunan al-Nasa’i 4998

restrain your hands from harming the lives of people
“ If you would be pleased to be safe and for your religion to be safe for you, then restrain your hands from harming the lives of people, restrain your tongues from harming their honor, and restrain your stomachs from consuming their wealth ”
— Hasan Al-Basri
