in #islam6 years ago

The Blue Qur'an is a copy of the Qur'an written in kufic script on rare blue paper. Returns to the fourth century of migration, it was discovered in the city of Kairouan.

This copy of the Qur'an dates back to the second half of the fourth century (10 th century AD). The records of the Great Mosque of Kairouan prove its existence in its library since the fifth century. The manuscript of the Great Mosque of Kairouan, 693-1292-1293 AD, refers to this Qur'an in the following terms: In seven volumes of great size it was written in gold in the kufic line on black-blue papers. was written the number of verses and parties in silver; and wrapped the Qur'an in a printed skin on the wood lined with silk. "This manuscript is currently kept in Tunisia, with the exception of the first four volumes distributed to museums and private collections around the world»

During the 19th century AD the library was looted and stolen several pages from it, we find them today in special collections and in some European museums. Part of the Qur'an is still part of the Kairouan manuscript collection. Some of its pages are located at the National Museum of Islamic Art in Raqqada for Islamic Art.
