Shaking hands with women, Islamic perspective.
As salam aleikum waraq ma tul lahi wabaraqatul,
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Alhamdulillahi was solaatu was salaamu ala rosuulillahi wa alaa ahlihi wa ashabihi wa sallim.
In Sha Allah, I will be treating Islamic perspective as regards handshake with opposite sex in Islam today.
There is no doubt that shaking hands between males and females who are notmahrams(illegal for marriage) has become an intricate issue.
Umaimah bint Ruqaiqah said:
“I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) with some other women, to offer our pledge to him.
He said to us: ‘(I accept your pledge) with regard to what you are able to do.
But I do not shake hands with women.’”
— Ibn Majah, Hadith 2874
Meaning: It's not advisable to have an handshake with women in Islam.
However, there are lots of discussion on this by the scholars and some scholars have ulterior say to this as they believe that it is permissible to have an handshake if it won't arouse any desire.
The most acceptable by the scholars of all these discussions is that, we should try as much as possible to avoid handshake with ladies.
