Galata Tower
Galata Tower is a tower that is located in Galata district of Istanbul. It is built in 528, the building is an important symbol of the city. It is possible that you can see The Bosphorus and the Golden Horn panoramicly from the hill.The Galata Tower is one of the oldest towers in the world and it was built by the Byzantine Emperor Anastasius in 528 as the Tower of the Lighthouse. It was the largest building of the city when it was rebuilt in 1348.Galata tower was raised between 1445-1446. After Turks captured the Tower it has been renovated and repaired almost every century. It was used as a shelter for the Christian war prisoners in the 16th century. In the first half of the 17th century IV. In Murat period, Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi flew to Üsküdar-Doğancılar from Galata Tower in 1638 by wearing eagle wings. From 1717 the tower was used as a fire watching tower.
