石見神楽 Iwami Kagura～Japanese traditional performing art

石見神楽は日本国島根県の西部石見地方の伝統芸能です。
Iwami Kagura is a traditional performing art in the western Iwami region of Shimane Prefecture, Japan.

その歴史は古く1400年代にはその原型があったと言われています。
Its history is old and it is said that there was a prototype in the 1400s.

古くは神事として神官が神に捧げていましたが、今から150年程前に民衆に伝わってからは、民俗芸能として発展してきました。
In the old days the priests were dedicating to the gods as priestesses but since they have been transferred to the people about 150 years ago, they have developed as folk performing arts.

今では石見地方で150もの団体が石見神楽を上演しています。
私自身も石見神楽の演者です。
There are 150 organizations currently playing Iwami Kagura in Iwami district.
I myself is a performer of Iwami Kagura.

石見神楽の特徴は絢爛豪華な衣裳と豪快な舞です。
Characteristics of Iwami Kagura are gorgeous gorgeous costume and gorgeous dance.

個性豊かなお面も特徴の一つです。
このお面は和紙で作られています。
A personality rich mask is one of features.
This mask is made of Japanese paper.

石見神楽で使う衣裳は職人が手仕事で仕上げていきます。
Costumes used in Iwami Kagura are finished with handicrafts.
