吉岡秀人さん
先日テレビを見ていて衝撃を受けたことを書こうと思います。
吉岡秀人さんという方がテレビに出ていました。
吉岡さんは医師として発展途上国で無償医療を行なっている方です。
情熱大陸にも出演されていたのでご存知の方も多いと思います。
吉岡さんは設備が整っていない発展途上国で医療、それもオペを中心に医療行為を行なっているそうです。停電が日常茶飯事。麻酔も薬も満足な物が揃っていない。そんな状況でです。
オペは時間との戦い。集中力を研ぎ澄ますため、睡眠時間は1日3時間、食事は一ヶ月取らない時もあるそうです。
この事実だけでも衝撃です。しかし、僕が一番驚いたのはその理由。
何故そんなことができるのか？
吉岡さん曰く
『みんなは僕が一番嬉しい時は患者が助かった時だと思うでしょ？
でもそれは違う。
一流のバッターでも絶対に打てない球がある。
打てるかどうかは結果。
大切なのは自分がそれに対してどこまで高められるか？
それだけです。
僕も助けられたかどうかじゃない。
その瞬間に自分をどこまで高められたかどうか。
そのために集中力を研ぎ澄ます。
それだけです。
でも最終的に人間はそうなると思う。』
と仰っていました。
吉岡さんにはお金や名誉はもちろん、オペの成功、助けられたかどうか？など、相対的な価値観はありませんでした。
あるのはその一瞬、一瞬。自分で自分に納得できるかどうかだけ。
そのために睡眠時間や食事もコントロールする。
僕はこれを聞いた時『この人は修行者だ』
と思いました。
僕は趣味でヨガを実践していますが、高いレベルでヨガを行うヨガ行者に通じるものがあると感じました。
人間誰しも生きていく上で成功や失敗がありますが、その瞬間全力を出せたかどうかは本人しかわかりません。失敗しても全力だったり、手を抜いても成功することもあると思います。
成功が目的だと全力がどうかは関係ありません。しかし、成功以上の目的を人生に求めるなら一瞬、一瞬の自分に満足できるかどうかしかないでしょう。
そんなことをを吉岡秀人さんは今の日本人に伝えたかったのだと思います。
