Critically endangered Javan slow lorises were seized
At the beginning of the new year, 79 critically endangered Javan slow lorises were seized in the Majalengka area of the island of Java, Indonesia!
This shocking number shows what a significant problem the illegal trade in slow lorises in Indonesia is for their wild population, and thus for the whole species. The shipment with slow lorises was heading to the Chinese megacity of Shanghai.
During the seizure, two poachers and at the same time traffickers were arrested, sent to prison and are now waiting for the verdict. The seized slow lorises were stressed, dehydrated and, unfortunately, three died. The remaining 76 are now being taken care of by our colleagues from International Animal Rescue (IAR).
