Kitchen Cosmetic Body Lotion by Souls & Sisters

When people ask us what do we mean by Kitchen Cosmetic, we tell them what it means to us.

Kitchen Cosmetic is a philosophy that invites us to reconsider and honour our personal care practices, creating in our kitchen a temple of nutrition for the whole body.

This may be a concept that has many different definitions for different people, but we believe that this is the idea behind it. We all are unique beings, and we all have different needs; therefore we all approach life and fulfil our needs in different ways.

We would like to know how you would define kitchen cosmetic?

Looking for a moisturiser, we have been experimenting with many recipes available online, going for natural, DIY, zero waste, local, sustainable, etc.

Now basically we stick with two recipes, once for winter and another one for summer: MOISTURIZER MULTI USES AND FOR DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES.

Winter Season
Cocoa Butter + Shea Butter + Sweet almond oil

Summer Season

Directions

  • First, using a kitchen scale collect and gather all the three ingredients in equal parts. As an example 300 grams A + 300 grams B + 300 grams C.
  • Place them into a double boiler, ideally made of glass or stainless still.
  • Melt them on medium fire and DO NOT let them boil, remember we are working with raw and organic ingredients, and we want to keep all their properties.
  • Once is all melted and mixed, let it cool down and place the bowl in the fridge, to solidify. It takes approximately four hours to stabilise.
  • Once is all solid, stir it with an electric whipper or blender until it has a creamy texture.
  • Use a glass container for storage.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • From time to time we add essential oils to some batches. For example, Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Radiata, Sweet Orange and Ho Wood are some of our favs.
  • We use glass containers, and we also work with the concept BRING YOUR OWN! Reuse and bring your own container.

Why do we call it a Multi-Use or Multifunctional Lotion?

  • During summer coconut oil will provide you with sun protection.
  • During winter all that healthy fats will be beneficial against low temperatures and dry skin.
  • A great massage lotion.
  • Using it as hair mascara during the night, after the shower, you will experience soft and shiny hair. We personally do not use conditioner, so this has helped us out with moisturising and protection.
  • Also, since almond oil is one of the ingredients, you can save some for later, and apply as a hair mascara. It is lighter than the lotion, and it has wonderful results as well.
  • The single use of coconut oil is a genius sunscreen alternative for beach days.
  • Also, coconut oil has been an excellent intimate lub for the use of menstrual cups.

We would love to hear from you!

We have tried this moisturiser in various circumstances. Once @experimentel had a sunburn, and the lotion helped a lot with the healing process. Also, for @danivannova and I has been really helpful during winter time, on lips and hands, protecting us from the low temperatures and its effects on the skin.

One thing we enjoy doing is taking care of ourselves. And for us, this means eating healthy, doing some sport, loving ourselves and being mentally healthy. When taking care of our bodies, we like to put on our skins only products that we know are not harmful. Why would we put something toxic on purpose on our biggest organ? It is already enough with the atmospheric pollution.
