I found it a bit hard to contain my excitement when I finally found the yarn event at Aldi’s. I wrote about this here and then about my disappointment here.

For me it was great just to see and admire so much yarn on sale at a supermarket. As you can see from the photo above and below some of the colours were a bit too bright for my usual personal palette.

The photo above shows you clearly the demarcation of yarn types. The top shelf displayed yarn in ‘cakes’ in both ‘rainbow blues’ and pink ombre. You can learn the different types of yarn forms here.

The second shelf had cream colour and dark brown colour macrame yarn which I didn’t care for at all. To me it just looked like rope. The other half of the shelf displayed really bright totally chunky yarn which I again disregarded because it was too thick. I’m still not sure what I’d make with that type and thickness of yarn.

I was definitely more attracted to the bottom shelf because it displayed more subtle and natural colours : forest green, brown and beige amongst others. Each one of the yarn types above cost around £1.29 or around 7 Steem.

This type of yarn event apparently only happens twice a year. One in February and one in September, which was delayed by a few days. By chance I came across a Youtuber discussing this year's yarn event and explaining the problems she had accessing a yarn event and the lengths people go to buy yarn and how many of them then resell it.

You can see (around 9:58) or the video stamp how much chenille yarn she bought for making blanket projects.
