Charlie's Shop - 13 October 2024

I went shopping to Charlie’s again yesterday. Last time I visited the shop I wrote about it here. Above you can see the outside view of this big shop. You can tell that it’s the new season because they didn’t have so many plants outside.

The shop was busy; I found it a bit surprising that it seemed to have completely bypassed Halloween which is only in about two weeks’ time. It has clearly completely concentrated on the next big celebration after that, Christmas.

This time they had a whole area with these miniature scenes that light up or move. It was nice to see it all working.

I’m not sure who would have so much space on shelves or window sills to put all of these Victorian model village winter scenes.

There were also charity Christmas cards and all sorts of decorations as you can see behind this display.

Besides the many types of decorations they were selling all manner of biscuits, sweets, pickles and jams. I didn't feel like buying anything as it’s too far ahead in my opinion and I get easily tempted. I’m hoping they’ll do a bit of restocking nearer the time; otherwise, I’ll regret not buying now.

The prices for these LED Christmas trees ranged from around £59 (around 180 Steem) to around £110 or around 660 Steem. This was all a bit too high for my budget. I’ll have to check charity shops to see what I can find.

Once again Charlie’s had huge displays which I thought were part of a Christmas grotto but again that would be too soon.

There were three heads altogether which sang a seasonal tune when people pressed that blue button. I didn’t pay that much attention to it but then I noticed the sign saying that the three singing reindeer, Vixen, Prancer and Comet, have so far raised £146 or around 876 Steem. It didn’t specify who they were raising money for. I’ll have to check next time.

One reason why I go to Charlie's is to have a look at the yarn. It’s more expensive than the yarn in the current yarn event at Aldi’s, but they hold so much more stock that it's worth just going to have a look.

You might be able to see the prices above but just in case : the natural wool is £7.29 or around 43 Steem. When I checked it was a 200g skein and the main thing is that it was 100% wool (not acrylic), so that price is not bad at all. If I’d seen a different colour, I might have got tempted. Seldom do I find such affordable ‘real wool’ .

Next to that there were skeins of chenille again. Each 100g skein was £4.49 (around 30 Steem) so at least twice the price of the Aldi’s chenille.

I was good and didn’t buy anything from this shop. I’m not sure how long my restraint will last though. I find it useful to check what’s available before committing myself to buying but that wool was tempting.
