Howrah Bridge is a large arched suspension bridge over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India The bridge was approved in 1943 ,The bridge was originally named New Howrah Bridge because it was built instead of a floating bridge connecting Kolkata and Howrah districts in the same area. In 1985, the bridge was renamed after India and Asia's first Nobel laureate, the famous Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.
