My Top 3 Pick for the Most Successful Korean Boy Band Groups

in #kpop7 years ago

So I have been listening to K-pop songs but not much of an addict. The quality of their songs and videos are made with pure effort and talent. K-pop has been so much popular in the Philippines and it has entirely been popular the past years. Even K-dramas had invaded in our country too. So I did some research about the successful Korean Boy Band Group. In terms of social status, not everyone will excel. There will always be elites. The same goes for K-pop. Despite the tight competition in this industry, there were a few who have enjoyed an overwhelming success. We're here to list the three of the most successful male K-pop groups who have captured the hearts not only of their fellow countrymen but even international fans. This is in no particular order.

  • BIGBANG

This five-member boy band formed by YG Entertainment has been in the business for "12 years" already. They were known as one of the most influential groups who have molded the K-pop industry and made it known internationally. For that, they were dubbed as "The Kings of K-pop" by the media. Bigbang was famous for their flexibility in terms of musicality because they don't just stick to one genre. They know how to explore and play with their music.

One amazing fact about them is that they produce their own songs. The group's leader, G-Dragon, is not only known as a K-pop star but also as a brilliant songwriter. They have made a LOT of successful hits, sold out world tours and have garnered millions of Youtube views from their music videos. Furthermore, Bigbang is also known for being fashion icons because of their unique style and expensive clothings. What truly amazes people is the fact that they don't rely their success on their group alone. They can also be successful soloists.

Bigbang became an inspiration for a lot of K-pop groups. That includes the newest and arguably the most popular male group in this generation. Yes, it's no other than :

  • BTS!

Also known as Bangtan Boys, this seven-member group was formed by Bighit Entertainment on 2013. They came from a less famous agency and were not even that popular when they debuted. Their success was unexpected. They just suddenly stood out and made noise around the world which shocked K-pop fandoms. BTS has been enjoying international success lately and is making K-pop more famous around the world. They won the Top Social Artist Award on Billboard Music Awards after receiving over 300 million votes and became the first Korean group to win a BBMA. BTS was known for their upbeat songs which proved to be very catchy and uplifting.

They're currently dominating K-pop success after success and shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, they're stepping up the game each time they come back for a new track. Their massive international success is a proof that they have already established their group as one of the most successful acts in the history of K-pop.

  • EXO!

I don't know if they intentionally make their Group Names short (maybe easy to remember?) but I like the way how it was done. It's a famous boy band formed by SM Entertainment on 2012. The group started with twelve members separated into two sub-groups: EXO-K and EXO-M and performed both in Korean and Mandarin. They were known for their good looks, excellent choreographies and catchy songs. EXO has received 23 Daesang Awards (also known as grand prize awards) from various award shows.

Throughout the years, this group has faced so many issues (including legal issues) but nothing stopped them from making "all-kill" comebacks, sold out concert tours and successful hits. Their first album "Growl" was critically-acclaimed and an instant commercial success which sold over one million copies and made EXO the best-selling Korean artist in twelve years. This group has maintained their power, popularity and influence in the industry despite the challenges that tried to bring them down.

Though these are all just from my preferences, it was also backed by research regarding their success. People have different opinions and views and it is highly welcome into this post. :)

OMO!!! I never thought you had it in you @jassennessaj...

I'm a huge fan of BIG BANG since way way back... I've just recently learned about EXO and I also like some of their songs... Not so familiar with BTS and their songs but I'm gonna check them out one of these days... 😉

Yes! I am so surprised about the evolution of K-Culture is Europe. I remember me as a child, my first trial of east culture was Japanese manga. I found those cartoons so much better than the American made cartoons. Then, in my teenage years, I've discovered K-beauty. OMG I am so in love with it. Since then I started being more interested in Korean culture. My friend introduced me to K-Pop groups. Feels like an entire new world to me. It's pretty hard to watch it being in Europe, but some platforms like http://k0reanwatch.com/ offer you access to original, high-quality content. Btw., BTS are my favorites!
