"Hey! You’d better explain yourself before taking a shower!"
With a sharp slam, the door shut in front of Yin Shaojie, nearly knocking into the high bridge of his nose, a feature he took great pride in.
He pounded on the door and shouted, "Xiao Xiao, come out here!"
Moments later, Xiao Xiao emerged, holding a set of fresh clothes, half leaning against the doorframe as she looked at him with a drowsy gaze. "I’m really, really tired right now, my brain’s completely foggy, I can’t think straight. Let’s talk tomorrow, OK?"
Without waiting for a response, she bypassed him and headed towards the bathroom.
Yin Shaojie, helpless, watched her retreat. He had noticed the fatigue etched on her small face and reluctantly decided to let it go for now.
...
The next day, Xiao Xiao woke up from a comfortable sleep. Hearing some noises from outside, she stirred and lazily threw off the covers, getting out of bed.
She opened the door and stepped outside, where she spotted Yin Shaojie.
"Yin Shaojie, I’m starving. Has breakfast been prepared?" she asked, clearly still half-asleep, her eyes heavy with drowsiness. She stumbled over to the sofa, curled up with a cushion, and rested her head against it, her little head bobbing as if she might drift back to sleep at any moment.
Yin Shaojie, after pouring himself a glass of water in the open kitchen, leaned casually against the bar counter, his voice lazy as he replied, "There’s no breakfast. I don’t cook here. If you want something, you’ll have to go out and buy it."
Xiao Xiao pouted, her small face scrunching up in annoyance as she began to whine, "No breakfast? What am I supposed to do? I’m so hungry, I’m going to starve to death! Wuwuwu..."
She flopped dramatically onto the sofa, kicking her legs in mock distress.
Yin Shaojie watched her with a bemused expression. She was still as childish as ever, showing no sign of changing.
"There are drinks and milk in the fridge, and biscuits and snacks in the cabinet. Help yourself to something and eat, then I’ll call home and have my mom send you back," he said.
The mention of food made Xiao Xiao spring into action, rolling off the sofa and running to the fridge. "Go back there? Didn’t I tell you last night? From today on, I’m staying here."
She was completely at ease, treating the place like her own home. She casually took out some milk and an apple, drank half the milk, and then started munching on the apple.
Yin Shaojie glanced at her and said flatly, "I won’t agree to any engagement."
Xiao Xiao shrugged, unfazed. "If you don’t agree, you can go tell your parents and Grandpa Yin. I can’t make decisions on that."
He frowned. "Grandpa too? What is all this nonsense?"
"Mom said you need to go back this weekend. She’ll explain everything to you then. Even if you don’t agree, you’ll have to, because Grandpa Yin will make sure of it. So you might as well stop struggling," Xiao Xiao said, her tone calm but with an unmistakable certainty. She had already seen the outcome—no matter what, Yin Shaojie would have to submit to his grandfather’s will.
Yin Shaojie, growing increasingly frustrated, snapped, "No need to wait until the weekend. I’ll take you back tonight, and we’ll get this straightened out!"
"Suit yourself." Xiao Xiao waved her hand nonchalantly. It didn’t matter to her. She had already given in, and she knew he’d eventually come around too.
After finishing the apple, she threw the core into the trash, washed her hands, and then turned to him. "You’re going to school, right? Wait for me. I’ll brush my teeth, wash my face, and change clothes. I’ll be quick."
"You’re coming to school with me?" Yin Shaojie asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.
"Yep, because from today on, I’m transferring to your school," Xiao Xiao replied, smiling as she leaned against the bathroom doorframe.
