Sailing to the Stars in France’s Floating Forest

Why does every journey start so early?
The sun fuels every form of life that ever breathed, but it doesn’t get up this early. Not even in summer.

When my alarm went off at 3 AM, I rolled over on the couch, growled, and switched it off. I had plans. Always good for giving God a laugh.

I was going to get up even earlier than I had to, before I needed to drive my wife to the airport. I was going to sneak out the back door while she slept. I was going to go to the beach at the edge of town, the one with no restaurants, no amenities, no streetlights. I was going to watch the Perseid meteor shower raining down angels cast out of heaven over the Mediterranean.

That’s the kind of plan that sounds like a good idea the night before. But after three hours sleep, even shooting stars don’t seem worth the trouble.

My wife woke me up again a couple of hours later.

Part of why my wife and I live where we do is because we can drive to Barcelona airport and take advantage of its direct flights to Toronto so she can visit her mother. And so that’s what we did at 5 AM, watching the traffic on the ring roads around…

"Love this post! 😊 It's so relatable when you're not a morning person and the sun doesn't seem to be getting up early enough 😂. I'm curious, did you end up watching the Perseid meteor shower despite your initial sleepiness? And what was it about the beach at the edge of town that drew you in? 💫 Let's keep the conversation going!
