Halloween and fire night can be exciting for people - but celebrations that match with this time of year can be unusually stressful for pets.

In fact, loud sounds and flash lightning accompanied by fireworks are scary on about 45% of British dogs, according to RSPCA.

Fireworks are particularly frightening for dogs because they hear four times the distance from the man and hear more acute sounds in the frequency range of 67 to 45,000 Hz.

So, whether you're watching a fireworks display with your family or friends or staying at home, it's important to ensure good housekeeping.

Of course, it may be difficult to know exactly what to do to make your animals safe.

Fortunately, RSPCA says there are many simple steps to keep your pets from carrying fireworks. The sooner you are ready, the more noise you will be able to handle.

Dogs

Before you start fireworks, we recommend you talk to your veterinarian about pheromone dispensers. These products scatter soothing agents in the room and can be a good choice to help your dog relax.

If your dog is particularly concerned about loud noise at all, it might be interesting to look at behaviour therapy as well.

The organization suggests that your dog is comfortable:

Walk through the day to avoid the time when the fire will fire fireworks
Close the curtains and windows to reduce the sound of the fireworks
Put music or television to hide the fireworks sound
Create a calm space where your dog can feel under control
Create places to hide around your home
