It is always a joy for me whenever I have the opportunity to participate in the Steemit contest weekly and today I will be participating in the crypto academy community contest. Stay tune below.

According to what was explained in class, according to the law or laws of your country, indicate two examples of public law and two examples of private law, and explain why you consider that these rights are part of public law and private law. You must select two laws from your country, you must place them in one of the branches of law explained in class (or with which of the branches of law it is related or similar), you must also explain why you place that law in that specific branch

Alright before answering this question, I will like to establish the fact that my country is Nigeria and looking at the Nigeria legal system that I have come to experience, our laws are generally classified to be under the public and the private law. Of course they are two types of law but they also work differently which I would like to explain below today.

Public Law Examples

I will start with the public laws. I will be mentioning two examples under this public law and not only that I will be backing it up with the branch of law each of them fall into and the explanation backing them up.

1. The Nigerian Constitution
  • Branch of Law: The Constitutional Law
  • Explanation: The major reason why I classified the Nigerian Constitution under the constitutional law is the fact that the Nigeria constitution is seen as the supreme law in my country and it goes a long way to regulate how both the government and the citizens behave. Under the Nigeria constitution law, it comprises of the fundamental rights, the power and also the limitations of the government. It is classified under the public law because it goes a long way to dictate how public authorities and figures behave and interact so that justice can be achieved.
2. The Criminal Code Act
  • Branch of Law: The Criminal Law
  • Explanation: The second example I will be picking is the Criminal code act which falls under the criminal law. The reason why this fall under the criminal law is it helps to dictate the punishment and helps to make sure that criminal justice is ensured. Just as the name implies, it helps to deal with any criminal activities and it is a public law because it also involves any activities and actions either in the society and many more. It at the end of the day helps to ensure Societal interests.

Private Law Examples

I will continue with the private law. I will be mentioning two examples under this public law and not only that I will be backing it up with the branch of law each of them fall into and the explanation backing them up.

1. The Matrimonial Causes Act
  • Branch of Law: The Family Law
  • Explanation: The first under this because it goes a long way to regulate private issues. Why I placed it under the family law because just as the name implies, it helps to solve issues that is related to family, marriage and also children. It is private because it is not something that is common or should be made public. It involves issues and agreements that exist between private individuals.
2. The Sale of Goods Act
  • Branch of Law: The Contract Law
  • Explanation: The explanation backing the reason why I picked this one and the fact that it falls under the contract law is because it also deals with transactions and either the buying and selling of goods which operates under contract. It involves either the buyer or the sellers fulfilling obligations for the transactions and it helps to settle disputes that might want to exist between the both parties.

Of all the branches of law (explained in class or that you know and have not been explained), which one do you find most interesting and why?

If I should actually pick, I will definitely be going for the constitutional law as the most interesting law for me. And I didn't just pick it suddenly from the moon, there are some reasons I saw that made me to go for it which I will be explaining below.

  • Foundation of Governance: I see the constitutional law as the foundation of governance. In essence, it is the backbone in which every country including my country Nigeria legal system thrives. It helps to point out the function of the government and also helps to regulate the behaviours of the citizens through the fundamental human rights.
  • Protection of Rights: Like I said earlier, the conditional law includes the human rights and one aspect that the constitutional law helps us to protect the rights of the citizens. This makes it possible that human rights are not abused and appropriate justice is prescribed for good equality and fairness also.
  • Impact on Daily Life: Whether we like it or not, constitutional law have a massive effect on our daily life and most especially the positive aspect. It influences the way the citizens live within the society. What to do and what not to do and cover every aspect of life whether the public or the private spheres of life.
  • Personal Connection: Then lastly, the reason I will pick the constitutional law is that it has a personal connection with me. It has helped to combine both the political life and the social life and helps to make sure that balance is applied to it. One is not abused than the other and vice versa.

We have all had or experienced moments within one of the branches of law. So you must tell us about your own or someone else's experience but of which you have full knowledge and can adapt or compare it with one of the types of law explained in class. You must describe this legal situation in detail and explain why you consider it part of that right.

Of course there is this contract law which I want to share with that I have experienced before. There is this legal situation I once engaged with my friend around 2-3 years ago and that is because he has a rental agreement with the landlord concerning his apartment.

The rental agreement contains monthly rent, maintenance issues and the duration of the lease and many more and which along the line, there is a dispute that happens with his landlord. It was really severe because the landlord according to what I can still remember trying to now increase the rent of his apartment around twice the original rent and the duration of the lease has not expired. This now go against the terms of the rental agreement we signed.

After my friend collected the apartment, around 4 months later, the landlord gave a quick notice that the rent will be increased around twice the original rent before. Of course my friend refused to comply and then the landlord now wants to threatened him with him vacating his house if he will not be willing to pay the higher rent. Of course the case w taken to the lawyer guiding the landlord association in our area and the landlord was call to notice that he was at fault.

The case was settled when the landlord saw that he was the one at fault and later apologized to my friend. That was how we settle the case till today.

I invite @josepha, @suboohi @anasuleidy and @stef1 @mikitaly to drop a very constructive comments on this post and also to participate in this contest.
