I chose a slightly different route to the answer, using an alternative, integer representation ..splitting the LOD (left of fractional decimal-point) from the ROD (right of decimal-point), solved along with a "count" function adding zeroes to one of the operands when necessary. Going wide rather than faster, more digits/ orders of magnitude possible.
