A Solution For City Problems

Most of us believe that government is the solution for all man's problems. This is why we continue to vote for incompetent and even corrupt "leaders" about whom we choose to also know nothing. This is the script for an Idiocracy ran by the lowest common denominator. This is our current system: We attract sociopaths and the power-hungry to lead us. That should never be. Mitigating that glaring problem is the topic of another article. Fixing the base structure of two main areas of city life will help our society heal faster.

I believe private individuals and companies can do a much better job if incentivize. Profit is a big incentive. Government is destructive in nature, not life giving. Anything it gives, it gives at a much decreased efficiency than any similar private sector activity. Anything it gives, it must first TAKE as governments are not designed to MAKE PROFIT. That should change if we really want to incentivize good behavior and punish bad. A sustainable government must make a profit. Mostly that is currently via taxes. With my ideas, taxes are not necessary for any individual or family.

Governments cannot even build roads efficiently. They take the highest bids often and even worse, have no-bid contracts. Every government program in existence is both highly wasteful and overly costly. That must end. They are usually behind schedule and over budget. All public projects should receive 5 qualified, fair, and just bids and they should then choose the middle bid no matter what. In order to foster competition, no public service involving the use of force should ever have a monopoly. When governments fund research or do major capital investments, individuals and private corporations are often the only ones benefiting massively. That is stupid and fascist to the core.

I propose having a minimum of 3 independent PRIVATE law enforcement agencies and at least 3 competing PRIVATE public works agencies for all cities over 10,000 if incorporated. Competition will dictate the worst of the three is replaced every 3 years by a new winner of the bidding process. We can also have a fourth pure government option if you want the budget pie split in four. This should be only allowed if the government agency adheres to the exact same rules and conditions as their private competition. Then the weeding process continues as designed.

This one idea will end police brutality and costly city government overspending. It will also combat corruption. Use the SAME budget as last year just divide it by three or four. The efficiency gained will allow SMALLER budgets moving forward. Now is the time to try this in cities where de-funding is not on the table. Those cities will not thrive. No business will move there knowing they have no protection from the lawless. We must have law enforcement. We must have just, fair, and transparent law enforcement. It must also be cost efficient.

This idea will quickly get us there while not sacrificing budgets or safety. There are ways to accurately measure the efficacy of any government agency or program. We must do better!
