As a leadership professional I find it amazing to continue to see people in leadership roles that don’t lead their team. If your in a leadership role you must build trust from your team. There are 5 important factors that I value in building the right relationship with your team.

  1. Treat your team with respect: treat your team like your family, respect them and have their backs.

  2. Be transparent: Transparency is key to open dialogue and open conflict issues. By keeping this all in the open you and your team know when they have done anything to affect you and vice versa. You discuss it and find resolution.

  3. Do what you say: When you tell your team you will deliver on something you need to 100% deliver on that. The trust that your team will have in you is priceless when you do what you say.

  4. Teach your team: Always be looking for opportunities to help your team be better. No matter the situation observe them and their actions. Offer coaching and feedback related to the situation and how they could be better or simple improve. Do this immediately, and with good strong examples.

  5. Praise your team: Always praise your team and show them how important they are to the team. Just as #4 is when you can help them grow you must be willing to tel them when they did great and reinforce their actions. Thanking them and small rewards are huge in building a team that will go above and beyond for you.

Take these simple suggestions and work to make them part of your everyday leadership actions. With these steps you will build a strong team that trusts you and does great for you!
