The Ginkgo biloba, often called the maidenhair tree, is a truly remarkable plant. It's the sole surviving member of the Ginkgophyta division, a lineage dating back millions of years, earning it the nickname "living fossil." This ancient tree is renowned for its unique fan-shaped leaves, which turn a brilliant golden-yellow in autumn, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

In spring and summer, the leaves are a vibrant green, providing shade and oxygen. However, as autumn approaches, the chlorophyll in the leaves begins to break down, revealing the underlying yellow pigments called carotenoids. This transformation is particularly striking in the Ginkgo, as the leaves often change color uniformly and fall within a short period, sometimes even within a single day.

The fallen leaves create a beautiful golden carpet beneath the tree, adding a touch of magic to the autumn landscape. The Ginkgo's resilience and unique characteristics have made it a popular ornamental tree worldwide, admired for its beauty and historical significance.
