Learn to Play the Guitar Part 28
In the last lesson, we learned how to effectively use those seventh chords in the typical “one, four, five” chord progression. If you followed along to the end, you eventually played a pretty bluesy little ditty in the key of E.
If that bluesy tune did it for you, then what you’re about to learn will put the icing on the cake.
Have a look at the graphic below.
If you didn’t notice, what is pictured is a succession of three chords walking down from E7 to D7 in the D7 finger position starting on the third fret. That’s right, the D7 chord can be moved as well.
Put your fingers in the D7 position and slide it up to the third fret. Now you’re playing a variation of an E7 chord. Slide it down to the next fret and then to the D7. The final cherry on top is resolving it with an E chord at the end.
Practice sliding down from E7 to D7 like in the image, giving all three step one beat and the fourth beat resolving with an E chord.
Once you have that down, go back to the last lesson’s blues progression and insert this in the beginning as well as any other part of the song you feel it works.
Enjoy!
