We stand with Corso’s and grieve with the families broken up and caged unnecessarily.
Please keep in mind, we are not 'any other country' - we are the United States of America. For hundreds of years we were a symbol of hope, freedom and a better life. The statue of liberty was an icon that ships sailed past and people wept with relief at the sight of her torch. All immigrants had to do was sign their name. It wasn't a childish notion then and it is still not now. Please read some history about how and why our country was founded.
Before you rally around, 'but bad actors might get in' please remember that humans have produced 'bad actors' since the dawn of time. We will judge people fairly, in court, based on their actions, not on something, of which, we think their countrymen are capable. If bad actors really wanted to damage us, use your imagination and think of all the ways they could have before now.
Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Let that quote be our guidepost to determining who we let in based on our supposed safety.
Its heartbreaking. If we simply all lived by the golden rule and held the government to that same standard, life would be so much more peaceful.
Here is one example of something we can do as allies to the immigrant community.
