Anarchist to Abolitionist: A Bad Quaker's Journey

Research, And An Evolving Philosophy

My good friend, Bill Buppert, has had a tremendous influence on my way of thinking. He and I have had endless hours of discussions around campfires, on the phone, and seated in my motorhome. He has inspired me to rethink my position on some key aspects of my philosophy. My interactions with Bill, along with my experiences traveling in Missouri, gave me the material to write my first book.

Previously, I held the position set down in Franz Oppenheimer's 1914 classic work The State, Its History and Development Viewed Sociologically, that humans would eventually stop feeling the need for the State, and with modern inventions and modern views, the State would simply be discarded at some time in the future. I still agree with much of Oppenheimer's conclusions regarding history, economics, politics, and the State, but I have grown to what I believe is a deeper understanding of the nature of the State than Oppenheimer had in 1914.

I believe the State has become its own entity, its own unique parasitical being. And I believe the State has for most of its history, adapted to new thinking and to new technology. It's slow to adapt, but eventually it adapts to, and adopts new technologies and uses them to consolidate even more power for itself, at the cost of the freedom of humanity. I believe there are people who enjoy tremendous fortunes and incredible power, beyond the imagination of the vast majority of humanity, due to the existence of the State. And separate from those wealthy and powerful people, the State facilitates violent people of low intelligence, who are allowed by their position in the State, to express their violent tendencies, and are even rewarded for their grotesque behavior.

I believe this parasitical being, the State, has a symbiotic relationship with the wealthy and the power elite, and their subservient violent enforcers. In a very real sense, together, they make up the body of this being, much the same as bees make up the body of a hive.

I believe the State, using the fanatical tendencies of its enforcers and the greed of the elite, will do anything to stay in power, while feeding off of the labor of the bulk of humanity. Just from what we witnessed in the 20th century, the State, through its loyal servants, is willing to slaughter any amount of humans to maintain power, including slaughtering its own servants. This part is no theory, it's a well-documented fact.

Considering these facts, I can no longer believe the State will simply become an abandoned, outdated good old boys club, nor will it be like Myspace with millions of accounts, but almost no actual users. The State will grow to the point that machines replace physical labor, and the State will no longer need the bulk of humanity. If we allow that day to arrive, we have waited too long and humanity will be exterminated, including the enforcers and perhaps even the elite.

Don't confuse that last statement as being anti-technology, or that we can battle the State by fighting the modernization of industry. The machines are not our enemy, in the same way as the gun in the hand of a mugger is not the problem. The mugger is the problem, not his tool. The same is true with the State. The tools of the State are not our enemy, but the people, the power elite, their stooges, and enforcers, are the enemies of humanity and freedom.

Humanity's only logical choice is to clandestinely plan and execute the death of the State. The entire hive must be exterminated, from the top to the bottom. As this extermination progresses, many will abandon the hive and should be spared, but those who remain defending the hive, must die with the hive, or they will simply bring it back at the first opportunity.

We cannot work from within the State to obtain some promise of freedom, because the moment you use the State for your ends, you are the State. You become a part of the hive, and as such, you are the enemy of humanity.

The Crossroad

If you've come to the same conclusion about the State as I and some others have, and you wonder how such a process as killing the hive can begin, you can start with my book Sedition Subversion and Sabotage, Field Manual No. 1, A Three Part Solution to The State.

There is an oft-cited quote that states, “For evil men to accomplish their purpose, it is only necessary that good men do nothing.” This quote is usually wrongly credited to one of several thinkers and statesmen, extending from the 1700s to John F. Kennedy in the 1960s. However, the actual source of this exact quote is from "Christian ministers" of the early 1900s, pushing for the prohibition of alcohol. These are not the words of some wise thinker. They are the words of bumper sticker philosophers, attempting to bend the minds of the simple and the weak. Good men never do "nothing". Evil men are winning because good men work and sacrifice for the wrong cause. Evil men depend on good men making stupid choices.

There has been no single monster of history, nor any evil government in history, that didn't depend on good men facilitating or supporting that evil through misguided loyalty and by making stupid choices. Finding those misguided fools and bringing them to the light is a daunting task. But it is a task that some of us are driven towards.

If you choose this path, the way of the abolitionist, you choose the path your forefathers lacked the courage to walk. But survival of our species demands courage. If you choose this path, you choose war. And if you fight a war, you can choose to be wise or you can lose. Wisdom is knowing when and how to fight, and when and how to avoid a fight. And winning this war depends on wisdom, not might, and certainly not numbers.

If you accept this challenge, I wish you well. But if this challenge is not a thing you can face, don't apologize. Good men and women have faced this question and have chosen a safe, comfortable life. I don't understand such people, but God has not granted me the authority to judge them.

On the other hand, if you seek freedom and can settle for nothing less, don't assume you only have the choices of fight or acceptance of slavery. There is a third road available to take, the way of vonu.

Vonu is a sea turtle that freely swims the oceans of the world, invulnerable to coercion. A person who seeks the vonu life is one that seeks to make themselves invulnerable to coercion, and there are many ways to achieve this. My good friend, Shane Radliff, has done much to restore and republish the life works of a man known as Rayo, who championed the concept of vonu. If the vonu life suits you better than slavery or war, I would urge you to seek the works of Rayo and Shane.

Conclusion

What you have just read is known in storytelling as a basic tragedy story. I once thought my story would be classified as a quest, but that wasn't to be. I lived a life overflowing with love, adventure, challenges, mistakes, foolishness, pain, redemption, and joy, but in the end, my quest to kill the State was never a realistic goal for me. I lived a life without regret, but ultimately without the success I wanted. I leave behind a living, breathing State for another generation to suffer, and hopefully kill. If I have made any progress towards my goal of killing the State, it will only be realized by the hands of others. My only hope is that I have influenced someone to keep this fight going until we win, and mankind is once again free.
