Murray Rothbard Against the Debt Ceiling

in #liberty2 years ago (edited)

Dear friends,

I am writing to express my deep concern about the current debate over the debt ceiling limit. This issue highlights the grave problems caused by the Federal government's chronic overspending and its addiction to borrowing.

As you know, I have always been a vocal critic of government spending and intervention in the economy. I have argued that government spending is inflationary, and that it misallocates resources, and that it is a burden on the economy. The debt ceiling limit is a clear example of this problem.

When the government is allowed to borrow without limit, it creates moral hazard and it sets the stage for financial crisis. It also undermines the currency, and it leads to the erosion of purchasing power of the people's savings. The government's spending habit is simply unsustainable and it is a recipe for disaster.

The only way to truly address the problem of the debt ceiling limit is to cut government spending and reduce the size and scope of government. We need to rein in the government's spending habit, and put an end to the era of borrowing. This is the only way to ensure that our economy remains strong and that our nation's future is secure.

I urge you to join me in calling for a responsible approach to government spending and the debt ceiling limit. Together, we can take the necessary steps to put our nation back on the path to fiscal responsibility and long-term economic growth.

Sincerely,
Murray Rothbard

It's worth noting that Rothbard's views on the Federal Reserve were highly critical, and he advocated for its abolition and replacement by a free market system of money and banking.
