U.S. lawmakers remain worried about Libra's prospects after the meeting in Switzerland

Maxine Waters, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives' Financial Services Committee, said she remained concerned about the prospects for Libra's cryptocurrency after discussing the issue with Swiss officials, whose jurisdictions have registered the project's governing body.

On Sunday, Waters issued an official statement noting that the U.S. delegation had met with a number of representatives of Swiss authorities and regulatory agencies. These included representatives of the State Secretariat for International Financial Affairs, the Office of Market Surveillance and the Federal Commissioner for Data and Information Protection. According to Waters, they were "ready to help understand the status, complexity and scope of Facebook plans".

The planned meeting was announced earlier this month. It was supposed to help clarify how various authorities in Switzerland intend to regulate Libra.

Waters has been a strong aversion to Libra since the announcement of the project and among others criticized Facebook during the July hearing. At the end of last week, she confirmed that Congress would continue to monitor the development of the cryptocurrency project.
