Revolving chair to hospital bed

Dear Steemians !

I would like to share my story “Revolving chair to hospital bed"

As a IT professional staying with Laptops/PCs is my daily routine and I am sure you’re too. We all depend on these devices because today’s world runs on mobile and computer. Computers and electronics devices and development of technology playing vital role on our daily routine.

As we all agree that PC/Laptop are the only one tools for us to do everything. Laptops/PCs remain with us like our shadow and we engage with these devices every time.

Can we imagine our life without PCs/Laptops?

I am sure answer is No! Because we all depend on these devices. We all steemians can’t imagine our life without Computer/mobile.

Most of we all steemians are from different field of profession and expertise like IT industry, Fintech, cryptocurrency, online payment, developers and few are cryptocurrency pioneers too. Whatever the field we are from, one thing common is we all spent our time in laptop/Pcs and stay continuously in a same position/posture.

We all spent more than 8 hours in a chair at office and few more hours for our personal works like steemit, face book and other task daily in home. Sitting in a chair for long period is harmful for our health and it is serious issue for us and really harmful for the people like us because we are the people who stay long in front of our PCs/Laptops than people from other industries. Mainly it harms our spine and back.

According to the various survey, eight out of ten people are suffering from back pain and one of the reason is sitting at chair in a same position for long period.

I am the one heavily suffering from this problem and in medical terms its like Lumber Spinal Stenosis. And according to my doctor it was caused by sitting in a chair for long period. Its pains in back and legs continuously and even pain killers can’t work. This happens when disc and vertebra of our spine degenerated, displaced, herniated, unnecessarily grown and damaged. This may cause displacement, damage and pressure on spinal cord and branching nerves/roots.

In some cases this can make us paralyzed!

I am having constant pain on my right leg and back for the last six month. It has been getting worse in the last few weeks, it's really painful. I feel the pain when standing, sitting and lying down as well, I have visited few doctors as well but no improvement. It started in February with a little bit pain in my right leg and became huge problem in my life. Lost job and money and struggling with pain.

First time I had pain in my back in February so visited doctor and prescribed some medicine after general medical checkup. Prescribed medicine/treatment had no effects so I went to another doctor recommended by friend and had x-rays and he also prescribed some medicine and physio therapy but no any improvement so I had MRI and few X-rays and visited same doctor many times but he tried different medicine and one injection in my spine but no any improvement noted then he finally suggested me a spinal surgery but I was trying to avoid surgery so tried some medicine and therapies again.

Last month leg pain became so bad so again I changed the doctor and went to a senior and one of the selected orthopedic specialist here in Capital Kathmandu, he suggested the same thing as my previous doctor but he also suggested me to try Ayurveda and Alternative medicine like acupuncture and Natural medicine before surgery. I also wanted to avoid surgery because most of the people suggested me not to go for surgery because of risk and its uncertainty.

This is my MRI :

Now I am admitted here in a local hospital since 9 days and receiving Natural Medicine (Alternative medicine).

Before admitting here I have visited one Ayurveda doctor and he prescribe me some Ayurbedic medicine and Ayurbedic massage. He also suggested me to try all alternative medicine before surgery. I googled and watched dozens of videos in YouTube about alternative medicine like Ayurveda and other Alternative treatment like Chinese acupuncture and found they are effective for most of the cases like spinal stenosis, back pain , paralysis etc.

Hospital I am admitted :

They have been using Ultrasound massage, acupuncture, electricity therapy, massage, footbath, hot pads and herbal oils. They are treating me well here in this hospital but improvement is really slow. Doctor says natural medicine works slowly and it will take two weeks more and I see most of the patients are feeling improvement slowly here in this hospital so I am staying in this hospital with the hope of alternative/natural medicine.

I am receiving Acupuncture.

Finally I want to suggest you:

  •  Please never sit at the chair for long period.
  • Never stay in a same position/posture continuously.
  • Always take a break in each hour and walk for 5 minutes
  • Never take medicine coz painkillers are less effective in spinal and nerve pain, they just harm our body.
  • Try alternative medicine before surgery (if you are suffering from these types of problem).

The best sitting position :

Hi akkha... one thing you might want to consider is strengthening the muscles that keep your spine in good alignment. At the end of the day without your muscles and ligaments, you are just a pile of bones on the floor! You can try gentle Yoga or Pilates style exercises (which I bet the hospital you are staying in can help you with), to stretch what is tight and strengthen what is weak or too long. BUT ALWAYS WITHOUT CAUSING TOO MUCH PAIN! A bit of discomfort is ok, but noticeable pain should be avoided. You can even do some easily while you sit on the computer. Have a search on YouTube for seated core exercises. It also helps to have a roll on your lower back which improves your posture, a bit like this one..

Hope you get more relief soon and remember... it probably took you years to get your spine in that state, don't expect for it to be fixed quickly. You must be patient. Take care

Thank you so much for your valuable suggestion and motivation !
You are kind @olayer !!

Great post - I'm certain that you'll get better soon :) I would also advice some simple excercises to reinforce your loins and abdominals - you don't have to have six pack but those 2 are key things for health of your spine. Prevention is always better than cure :)

Thank you so much @awareentity ! You are kind !!

Thank you so much @naveedsarwar !

Fantastic post. I suffer from lower back pain myself. I have a week spot that allows one of my discs to prolapse puting pressure on my sciatic nerve. This causes pain to shoot down the left of my back and down my left leg.

Anyways I feel for you. Upvoted and resteemed.
